You mean this one? I was there last night buying my kid some clothes and saw it too. It has a giant logo of the same look on the back. Sorry but my phone camera is weak. rel="Lightbox"?s=44700aa82e1dc2f05ac65132424a48df&attachmentid=2852&thumb=1&d=1219003681" class="thumbnail" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version Name: fanatic1.JPG Views: 33 Size: 175.3 KB ID: 2852" style="margin: 2px" />

On a slightly different topic, I got a very interesting (and disconcerting?) comment when I was in UBS on Tuesday. A father (Texas grad) and son were on campus for a visit, and the dad started talking to me briefly. We were standing right next to all the new Nike I-State women's stuff and the racks of folded t-shirts. His son had picked out a red-and-yellow shirt that was on clearance, and we wound up talking about the new colors versus the old. He said they were from Minneapolis and were tired of seeing Minnesota's maroon and gold everywhere, and goes "I'm glad he found that shirt; looks like you guys are transitioning to the exact same thing." I didn't directly respond to that, but after they left I looked around the clothing department, and realized he was partially right. There's a moderate disparity in the new shades of cardinal from one company to the next (as has been often noted) but Nike has gone way overboard; their stuff is MUCH darker red than anyone else's, including ISU's own merchandise. It honestly does look like Minnesota or Oklahoma's maroon. I hope we get things balanced out soon, but if our premier apparel manufacturer can't get it right, (how) do we tell them "Hey, you guys need to make all of this clothing two shades lighter"?

I do NOT want to be mistaken for a freaking Gopher.

I also noticed the same thing. I was at the state fair last week looking at new cyclone gear mixed with old logo/color hats etc. A lot of the reds had quite a bit of a purple hue instead of just a darker red while others look more cardinal and less maroon. At least 4 different shades of red if you went from the old red to some of the hats that were maroon.

Nike probably just runs all the teams with similar colors through at the same time.

Re: Cyclone Gear

Went to the UBS the other day, showing my brother in law around campus and blew a ton of money. My wife decided she needed a primary game day shirt, a cardinal one and a gold one... I got a ton of stuff too... Snuck in (through a friend) and compated the gear to the actual game jerseys, its the same color. I am guessing the only reason the gamers look lighter is the lighting and angles.

A little off topic but I was in Lowes in Ames to yesterday when i was helping my brother move in to his apartment and they had an end of a shelf full of hawkeye crap and there was 1 Cyclone thing that you could buy there. This bugs me not only because it is in Ames but that the owners would get all of that EIU crap even though they knew that they wouldnt sell it. How stupid.

I noticed that a few of you were talking about mini helmets. I have done some pretty serious research and this place is the way to go. I ordered four, two for me two for my brother. I don't know why, but when I went to check out, they were a lot cheaper than advertised. 13 for the old one and 16 for the new one. I got them in the mail a few days ago and they are looking pretty sweet. I want to start collecting but their arent many riddell throwbacks out there.

No question we need to get the reds nailed down. That Riddell mini helmet looks like they just grabbed the closest stock dark red they had and put our new logo on it. Isn't the darker red in the I supposed to match the helment color? Looks like a lot of purple in this one.

“If we truly want to do this, this is the time to step up. Iowa State University has 175,000 living alumni. If one-of-every-10 living alumni joined the National Cyclone Club at the minimum level of $100, we could finance $30 million worth of construction." Jamie Pollard
