Cyclone Gear

I just got back from TJ Maxx in Ankeny. I bought a new ISU Football t-shirt and one of last years ISU throwback jerseys. T was only $9.99 and jerseys only $24.99. Plenty of Nike stuff (old logo) and some Twin Enterprises hats. There is also a lot of crappy Hawkeye stuff so look out.

What do we need to look out for? Does the Hawk garb start attacking people?

So you don't walk by it and get a dirty feeling...walking through Hawkeye crap is like walking into Walmart.

Re: Cyclone Gear

My wife is very short (5'0" to 5'1") and you can get some absolute steals on kids Nike stuff with the old logo for people that short. I almost fit into a kids XL and I'm 6'3". Stuff that was regularly priced at 60.00 was 12.50 at the bookstore.

Re: Cyclone Gear

I hear you on the Hawk stuff. I was just on a school field trip with my son, and we saw a guy wearing a hawk hat. We live on the East Coast over 1000 miles from Iowa. I really wanted to take a shower at that point. I guess I have too many bad memories of drunk, slobbering hawk fans in black polyester and fat guys in black/gold striped overalls.

Fortunately, my wonderful 5yr old just walked by the man and said "GO CYCLONES!" without any prompting! Needless to say, it made my day!

Re: Cyclone Gear

I'm looking for some nice dress shirts or nice dry weave polos with the new I-STATE logo. Any ideas where I can find some?

UBS in Ames has both. They also have TONS of old designs on huge sales, trying to clear them out. It's not just old logos, either (though that's a lot of it)- there's lots of last year's designs from a bunch of companies.

On a slightly different topic, I got a very interesting (and disconcerting?) comment when I was in UBS on Tuesday. A father (Texas grad) and son were on campus for a visit, and the dad started talking to me briefly. We were standing right next to all the new Nike I-State women's stuff and the racks of folded t-shirts. His son had picked out a red-and-yellow shirt that was on clearance, and we wound up talking about the new colors versus the old. He said they were from Minneapolis and were tired of seeing Minnesota's maroon and gold everywhere, and goes "I'm glad he found that shirt; looks like you guys are transitioning to the exact same thing." I didn't directly respond to that, but after they left I looked around the clothing department, and realized he was partially right. There's a moderate disparity in the new shades of cardinal from one company to the next (as has been often noted) but Nike has gone way overboard; their stuff is MUCH darker red than anyone else's, including ISU's own merchandise. It honestly does look like Minnesota or Oklahoma's maroon. I hope we get things balanced out soon, but if our premier apparel manufacturer can't get it right, (how) do we tell them "Hey, you guys need to make all of this clothing two shades lighter"?

I do NOT want to be mistaken for a freaking Gopher.

Does any one make the new helmets?

Since Nike basically picked the colors I would say that it is the other products that are using the 'wrong' color.
