Iowa State Basketball will move on. I used to believe that Harrison was a must get recruit for GMAC but that was when he was only a top 100 or 150 player. You have to get that kind of talent in your backyard, but top 10 or 5 talent is different. HB is probably the #1 recruit in his class when you combine his talent with his grades. HB has every opportunity in the world right now. Getting him to stay is gonna be damn near impossible. I will not hold it against GMAC if HB goes somewhere else.

I really don't expect Harrison to stick around, honestly. It's just not a great fit for him. ISU, in this case, is sort of like the high school girlfriend that you break up with when you go off to college.
You really can't hold a coach responsible when the program he is running and the future plans of a prospective recruit don't match up.
It'd be great to have him, but if he doesn't REALLY want to be at ISU, I hope he goes elsewhere. I'd much rather he was going down a road of his own choosing than sticking around as a favor to a coach, family member, or member of the community, or solely of some feeling of loyalty or duty.
At any rate, I think McD needs to start showing some progress, regardless of his recruiting classes. He's starting to get his guys in his program and the transition period, and all the excuses that come with it, is nearing an end. He's got 2, maybe 3 years to get ISU back into line with reasonable fan expectations before you have to look at moving on, IMO.
Firing him just for the decision of an 18 year old kid to not live in the shadow of his hometown for college would be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of in my life, especially when it seems he's doing all the right things to keep him here.

One of the worst statements I have seen posted on these boards! How do you or anyone else know what kind of fit ISU is with Barnes. For all you know it is a great fit and exactly what he wants. For you to say that is ridiculous

Geeeeeeez...and Iowa State is not a "great fit" why? How do we know he doesn't really want to be here? How do we know he's not really in fact "90% sure" about ISU and is just waiting a while to get to 100%?

I dunno, I would assume Barnes has grown up a big Cyclone fan. Some of his earliest memories of sports are probably Fizer and Tinsely and the top 5 rankings, etc. If McDermott fails to land a kid in his backyard, who grew up cheering for his team, my slipping opinion of his ability to win here will have fallen off the cliff...

We are talking about a guy that is going to be one of THE top recruits in his class when it is all said and done. Some of the top programs in the country are offering him. I would LOVE to see him stay and help ISU but if the kid signs with a Duke, North Carolina, Kansas, Texas, Florida, Kentucky, etc. can you really blame Mac or Harrison? No, those schools he'll be in the national spotlight and quite possibly give a boost to his NBA draft stock some day because of it.

Thank you Wes Johnson for the great 2 years you gave Iowa State. Wish you could've stayed. Best of luck to you, wherever you end up.
"The one thing I really want to say is to tell the fans thank you for everything," Johnson said. "You rooted for me, you were behind me with my injury, and I really appreciated that."

Even if we get Barnes, if Greg does not win he's out. Win with or without Barnes - he stays. Simple.
Not getting one recruit should not have an impact on a coach's status.
