Re: ISU update
I was up in Ames last Friday for lunch at Battles. I overheard the owner say that he a good deal with the ISU football team. Apparently, Battles is feeding the team almost every Sunday this Summer.

Re: ISU update
Sounds great but good lord when are they going to renovate Larch?
That place is a dump.
My favorite was my freshman year ('05) an alum was walking around talking to guys as we were heading down to tailgate and he said 'Man, this place smells the same way it did in the '70s' -

There's a Caribou Coffee on seemingly every block here in the Twin Cities. My wife is like a crack addict whenever CC is mentioned...she has to get some java.

They're everywhere.
On a related note, there's a guy in my department that likes to announce he's going to get coffee by walking around making 'moo'ish noises. After hearing it twice/three times a day all summer makes me want to shove him out the window... -

I lived in Larch last year and didn't think it was that bad. The new furniture helped out a lot.

(Summer of 2015 would be the absolute earliest.) The den furniture is getting life-cycled as normal, but that's all. The DoR is having to spend an insane amount of money on some stuff they hadn't expected when they drew up their 10-year plan in 2005. Like it or not, Willow and Larch are two of the newest residence halls, and are in pretty good condition. Old RCA is the same way- despite their age, they've been very well-maintained, and most of those buildings are nice.

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

Re: ISU update
I just rode past the Hub this afternoon and saw that they'd put up the Caribou Coffee exterior sign. It's hanging on the west wall (facing the library sidewalk and the West Lawn) on the old south part of the building. I'll take pictures of the whole building (and anything else people want to see) sometime soon. Let me know if you want pictures of something.

I'm glad that the hub is opening back up but I'm afraid that people congregating around here again is going to bring back Jesus Socks and the rest of the Soapbox Crazies which I've enjoyed not being around last year....

With the whole DoR finances thing, I had heard that supposedly the last head of DoR really screwed things up financially, left the people currently running it with a big mess to try and keep things maintained and upgrading in the budget.
Also, as far as other updates... don't forget that the Coover addition should be open for the fall! It looks positively awful design-wise on the outside, but inside it looks nice.. *sigh*, like Parker said, definitely looks even more like a prison on the outside..

Yeah, Randy Alexander (former DoR director) must have been smoking some good stuff. He left the current administration a huge mess to clean up, but they did. Actually, the 10-year plan was drawn up and approved, and they were in a good financial position before this other stuff ever came up. For once, something isn't Randy's fault, at least not exactly.
And yeah, WTF is up with the Coover addition? Who the heck designed that monstrosity? I'm totally down with making all of Engineering Row look modern and cool, but why does our campus have to have architectural schizophrenia? Why couldn't they go with the classy-modern glass and brick style they used on Hoover and Howe (and will use on the ABSE complex)? Or why not go with modified Georgian, like most of the buildings in that cluster? Why did it need to be something totally different from everything on campus? *sigh*
