[quote=mplscyclone;548279]I think what some people may have been implying is not just salary but Atheltic Department budget... IU alums are fanatical and I believe they are more willing to donate money, and at higher amounts.quote]
IU athletic budget is in the same ballpark as ISU. IU alums are fanatical about hoops- but they have been very apathetic about FB. ISU FB fans are Huskerlike compared to IU FB fans.
I was at IU when ARE was QB and IU football was exciting to watch- however there would only be 35k fans in the stands. There is a lot of potential at IU- but they need the FB program to step up & I'm not sure their current coach is the guy to compete for the upper tier of the Big 10.

Then seeing things through doesn't seem so important.
I'd like to think IU wouldn't be a step up from ISU, but I suppose from an AD's perspective, any job with a bigger budget and a more giving fan base means you can do more and do it more easily.

The Pollard's are very settled into Ames and it would take an outstanding opportunity for them to leave. I am not saying it would not happen, but I don't think now is the time.
Of course, money talks and - well you know the rest.

They are bowling in their endzone as we speak - not having to wait for a lead doner. Oh, and they began the work almost immediately after deciding it was a priority - again not having to wait for a lead donor. In addition, they are building a state of the art basketball practice facility right next door to Assembly Hall - without the need for a lead donor. Once again, construction was started as soon as the decision was made that it was needed. Oh, did I mention that they haven't had to wait for a lead donor?
Finally, they are not having massive financial problems. If embarking on 2 massive athletic construction projects AND hiring Crean away from Marquette to the tune of $3M+/year, they i hope ISU faces some Indiana-style financial issues very soon.

When JP came to Ames, I read an article in our Alumni magazine about how he researched schools he'd be interested in being an AD at. He actually considered IU at the time, but thought they had too many problems to deal with. He thought ISU was the better option at that time and probably still does!
I don't think JP is going to stay 20 years, but I think he'll stick around a bit longer. He really hasn't proven much here yet other then he's not afraid to fire people and can spend a lot money.

Then comes the reality of paying for it. I find it hard to believe they can afford all that without a lead donor and a budget of 41 mil per year. Unless of course decades worth of debt is what they aspire to.
Edit: I would also think that JP would hate to walk into a program that is currently being punished by the NCAA. If I were looking at a job that would be a huge turn off, but that's just me.

I asked JP about this rumor and it was the first he had heard about it, and told me he has no interest. He's happy here and I believe him.

The dollars do seem odd without a huge debt. Also at UI there is far more competition from other universities and Pro sports. At best it would be a lateral move. If JP leaves I believe it will be to top level job. Not just a move to be moving.
