Around Ames/ISU

Just an update from a recent trip around Ames/campus:

-Tents are going up in front of the stadium
-The new Alumni Center is nearly finished...pouring the stairway yesterday.
-Stopped by the Hub and it is NICE in there. Caribou Coffee and ISU dining has a full grill inside. They are still working on the addition with more seating, but most people wouldn't recognize the old space full of vending machines.
-Speaking of not recognizing a place, the University Book Store looks awesome. When I was a student, they had a very small selection of ISU clothing. Now they have more selection than Scheels in WDM and I bet twice that of T-Galaxy. Overall, they did a great job with the MU renovation/addition.
-The Hilton Garden Inn out west is framed and should be open later this fall.
-Stopped by Lowes yesterday and about puked seeing a large hok display inside the door. Rugs for sale. Evidently, ISU doesn't have a similar product. Made me sick and I wanted to rip it down. I can't believe that there would be a market for that crap in Ames. ISU's licensing dept needs to loosen up a bit.
-The Coover addition is nice.
-Pammel Dr is closed and they are working on the new chemistry building.
-JT is rounding into shape and the field looks great!

Do or do not, there is no try .....Yoda

Where is the Hilton Garden Inn going in out west? I live in West Ames and was not aware we were getting one.

The Lowes in West Des Moines has ISU rugs, flags, trash cans, etc so maybe they just sold out of this stuff in the Ames store leaving only the IU stuff on display?

They are also contemplating putting a bowling alley out that way...and they are repaving in front of the MU by the campus green...that road was in horrible shape!

Went to the Union on Monday! Panda Express was wonderful and the ISU clothing selection is great too. I almost wish I could take classes this fall.

I go in the MU 3 times a week to see all the new clothes coming in...they have some super sharp white wind breakers and they are amazing

I also love the Panda Express in there. I was recently upset when my Panda Express VIP (Very Important Panda) card expired. Sent me into freak mode

Did it perhaps make you a sad panda?

Edit: Oh, and that stuff is awful! Apparently there's plenty of people to keep them going though. Go get some Home Style when you need your Chinese fix!

My husband & I had great customer service! We were waiting as they finished bringing out the food, gave a discount for waiting, and had us try samples too!

I hope it wasn't just because we were the only ones there....

I was referring to Home Style Chinese (It's an actual restaurant) It's in the same parking lot as Flying Burrito, just down that hill.

Either there or Cocost on Welch.....mmmmmmm

I like the Mayhouse and New China west on lincoln way. Try to order stuff on the Chinese menu (not stuff like orange chicken, fried rice, etc).

I also find it hard to find "good" Chinese food. I like to eat Thai because it seems it isn't as Americanized as Chinese food is here...

Re: Around Ames/ISU

They are starting to pull construction equipment out of the slots and now have much of the railings done at JT. Fisher/Nickel is well on it's way to being demolished; they were removing asbestos the other day. Pammel drive should be reopened in a week or so, then there are rumors that they will be closing Osborn for awhile. The new stairs at Curtiss are nice and even. VetMed is really nice. I walked though there the other day and it kinda made me wish I was a horse.

Heck...I'm not even an ISU fan but seeing the tents go up is nice to see that it's finally here. The new Logo on the back of the scoreboard really stands out.

Can anyone go into Panda Express or is it just for students?
