Shawn Johnson is she eligible for college gymnastics

I'm not a gymnastics fan really but I'm like everyother Iowan that just got done watching a good display of gymnastics done by Shawn Johnson and I was wondering if she would be able to go to ISU on a scholarship even though she is starting to have all these endorsments?

My guess is she'll do London and then just want to enjoy a gymnastic free life.

She could make tons if she decided to open a gym similar to Chows, or work for Chow even.

No - it's a pretty known fact that her dreams are to go to Stanford. Her endorsement money that she earned will pretty much seal that deal...

Even if she was, once you're that good you don't do college gymnastics. She can make a lot of money in the next few years.

I can't believe I am about to say this, but I agree with Marty - she is going to be hard pressed genetically to be able to stay in Olympic Gymnast shape over the next 4 years. Her body type is not one to be a natural for it as she nears 20.

She stated in her Q&A on nbcolympics.com that she does not think that she wants to go to college at an Iowa school.

It may sound like it's ignorant and stereotypical, but it's not. Maybe "genetic" is the wrong choice of word - age factor is probably a better choice of words. Most young ladies are out of the sport - at least at that high of a level, by the time they are 20 years old. I can only think of one case where an American girl competed when she was older than 20, and that was Dominique Dawes - she was 22. 30+ year old Russian lady who vaulted for Germany is a freak of nature. Simple fact of the matter - age is going to be against Shawn Johnson if she goes for London, and as far as Nastia Liuken she probably wants to consider moving on with her life.

No it's not. Why do you think China try's to get 14 year olds to compete? Why is there an age limit? Because younger females have a biological advantage.

Good Lord, my wife has gotten me into this stuff too much now...I'm arguing gymnastic on CF.

I really hope that Shawn chooses to go to ISU. Frankly I could care less is she is actually on the gymnastics team. Heck, most people don't even know we have a gymnastics team. I would just like Shawn to go and be a great student at ISU, because really that's what its all about.

Well the gold medal winner this year was 19 and about to turn 20. That Liukin girl. So Shawn is 16 so she will be about the same age when London rolls around. I would not put it past her to make the team and take gold. The girl is money.
