Re: Ames Police Investigating Man's 3-Story Fall

I am thinking more along the lines of what the **** were his buddies thinking with letting the kid drink, along with a mix of both the things you mentioned above. I just think it is a little crass for people to be dismissing the tragedy by saying well duh, it had to be drugs or alcohol. I fear that there was more in play then that in this case. What may have been a significant amount of substance to him may not have been much to most on this board. I just don't feel like this is a situation to really pick at, not saying anyone has been too harsh, just feel this kid could use a break.

Re: Ames Police Investigating Man's 3-Story Fall

According to the news in the QC, he could have potentially fallen from the sleeping quarters..."open airs" or "cold airs" as its commonly known. Many of the fraternities have those where there are open windows without screens. I used to sleep next to a window in one such place... though I never worried about falling out...weren't big enough for me.

I'm not sure of the windows at FarmHouse. I think it would be difficult for someone to have fallen out of those windows...but stranger things have happened.

I just hope the kid will be OK in the long term. Miraculous that he survived.

For some reason, I think there is more to this story as well. I asked a member of the Farmhouse and he and his friend were as hush as hush could be about it and they mentioned they had a house meeting Sunday Night and tonight about what they can and can't say. If he just fell out the window when he was coming down the stairs to his bunk I don't think they'd be so hush hush about this whole situation

I think it's more a matter of there's an ongoing police investigation......they've probably been told not to say anything by the Ames PD. I'm not sure what could result from "spilling the beans" but it's probably not worth it. If I was told by the PD to stay quiet, I'd do it.

They could/will be in major trouble with not only IFC but also their national Fraternity just because it was a minor drinking. There was situation with my house my freshman year that wasn't this bad at all and we got put on probation for 1 year. This is serious stuff when it comes to that. I am not surprised at all that they are being hush about the situation.
