Care to share which item this is?

    It's funny - that's actually exactly why I don't buy Nike!

I used to work in a Wal-Mart in high school. That sucked. Now I frequent Target - it pisses me off to see people dragging their six-year-olds around Wal-Mart with no shoes on at 10:30 at night on a school night.

    Re: PLEASE NEVER

I tried the K-mart in my area once just to mix it up... I'll never set foot in there again. Absolutely no organization to how stuff is thrown on the shelves... the aisles were crowded with stuff and I couldn't get some things I wanted to look at. Saw some floor models but couldn't find them anywhere on the shelf...

grant you the one I went to is probally worse than most but I wasn't impressed with the one in Ames either...

Target seems like an over priced Wal-mart to me - a lot of the same stuff, some of it better, most of it similar to Walmart but slightly more expensive.

Wal-mart's grocery section in not only closer to where I live but also open at better hours (aka all the time) and the food is a lot cheaper... back when I had Hy-Vee I would food shop there but I can't stand any of the food places out here, so I default to Walmart for that (on a whole I miss Hy-Vee, but thats a side topic)

I buy 1/4 of beef a couple times a year from a farmer friend and get charged $1.65 / lb on all the meat and then pay anothe $.75/lb for processing. Try buying meat from Tyson that can beat that. Not derailing thread, just pointing out what you can get meat for that tastes much, much, much better then any range fed meat bought at grocery store chains.

Know what you mean about Hy-Vee (I know, side issue). When I lived in Phoenix, with their Fry's, Smith's, and Smitty's, I missed Hy-Vee a whole lot...

Thats part of why I go to Wal-mart... because I can be there 10:30 at night... (I'm a bit of a night person)

Can I usually adjust my schedule and go during Target's hours? Yes... but I do sometimes need stuff after Target closes which leaves Wal-mart

    Re: PLEASE NEVER

I agree with you terryk. The hoops I have to jump through to distribute our product to Wal Mart is ridiculous. We have a whole section of warehouse reserved just for Wal Mart. If we run out of our own product, they deduct points from our overall score. Then we well not recieve the 'benifits' we normally would. In general they treat there suppliers like **** and there is nothing the suppliers can do about it because it is Wal Mart.

    Re: PLEASE NEVER

I don't shop there if I can help it, because every time I buy something I get taxed extra on it, and it goes to the President of Walmart, David Glass, who also owns the Royals. Kind of like Robin Hood, but in reverse. And he still can't put together a decent team.

I've got Giant, Shoppers Food Warehouse and Food Lion. Food Lion still uses the cards for discounts on some items that put the food closer to Wal-mart's prices... otherwise it's frigg'n expsenive

Shoppers is good for somethings but I think most of their perishable foods are the type that are about to expire... so you have to use it immedietly or it goes bad.

Giant is a little ways away... nothing spectacular.

All of them have a smaller food selection than Wal-mart or Hy-Vee.. and all of them (including wal-mart here) have terrible meat selections...

    Re: PLEASE NEVER

Would they care more about their customers if they charged you $2,500 a year more and gave that money to their supply chain? Or do you think that you'd be better at spending that $2,500?

Trust me... I can beat it... Helps being a previous employee with connections to all their management in the freezer. Plus, other processing plants of theirs.

So unfair advantage. But I usually get a 1/2 beef each year from my uncle, or 1 hog from my hog buildings once a year. Much better from a butcher I do realize. But sometimes when you do run out, it is cheaper to go to WalMart then driving to a butcher. Especially when you don't have one within 25 miles.

Walmart is trying to make their stores more attractive lately. The super wal Marts look pretty good on the outside and the insides are pretty clean. Its the old ones (like the older one in Ames not the new one that look bad.) Not that I care about any of this, but that is my opinion.
Make sure you don't call the charge. But make sure you call the foul on the scrum....

Don't know about the no shoes :), but I couldn't believe when I was in WalMart in the Des Moines area last time I was there and people had small kids there after 10 or 11pm.

The old one in Ames looks great compared to the urban ones I saw in Chicago and Dallas, TX.
