Re: Why the different cardinal colors for ISU teams?

Could any of the differences be do to how the uniforms fit on the athletes and how sweat affects the shade? I haven't looked close enough to tell.

I was trying to compare that picture to the one of Brackins, and side by side, the stripe on her top looks like the same as the basketball uniforms.

The XC unis do look a lot brighter. Do we know that they are new?

Does A&M even have a dance team? I thought they just had those goofy guys in the white pants.

    I thought the same thing.

Re: Why the different cardinal colors for ISU teams?

I think a lot of it has to do with how easily shades of red are influenced by the colors they're surrounded by. Look at the difference between the 2-color and 3-color mark on page two of this pdf:

    http://www.cyclones.com//pdf3/91103.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=10700

It uses the exact same primary cardinal pantone but one doesn't have the darker cardinal. Although it does appear that in some places now the darker cardinal is being used without the primary cardinal.

Re: Why the different cardinal colors for ISU teams?

my girlfriend and I were hanging out with Christi Johnson and the v-ball team in Boulder after their match vs. CU a couple weeks ago (Christi and my g/f are longtime friends)... and I was amazed at how dark a shade of cardinal the volleyball team warm up jacket/pants were... it was a lot darker than the football jerseys it seemed. Ok, great, we got a new, simple, recognizable logo, no get the friggin' shade of cardinal right! cripes!
I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

I guess what kills me about this issue is that ISU has a Textile and Clothing department and major (one that they're very proud of, if you were to hear the people speak of it). I wouldn't have been hard to take all these things and throw them under a light box to make sure they matched. Heck, I would volunteer to do it if they'd give me access to the equipment. Most clothing suppliers are willing to send you a swatch or sample when you're ordering in quantity. Having shades this ranged so that it's noticeable to the naked eye speaks badly to the sports program and the college.

As someone pointed out earlier we have 2 cardinals for our new logo... and they're ordering the darker cardinal it looks like, and that looks like ****. It's 2ndary color... they should be ordering uniforms in the lighter, primary cardinal color

Nothing is manlier than grown men debating colors of clothes. The different shades of red are something that just doesn't make my day any worse. But that's just me. What confuses me is why do the Texas Tech RED Raiders wear black?

If you have ever been to Lubbock you would know that that RED comes from the color of the soil...man, they could use some Iowa soil. The area around Lubbock used to be tilled to raise a lot of cotton.

On an ISU note, I was in the DSM airport yesterday and they have certified ISU cardinal and gold hats and clothing with all different shades of cardinal. It seems all the protional stuff (ie. T-shirts given away at the ISU-Texas VB game) are all going to the darker cardinal...almost maroon.

The men's warm-ups looked horrible. I didn't even think it was our team when I first walked into Hilton. Same colors as aTm or Oklahoma.

However, if we had some success, I really wouldn't care if we wore pink!!!

The lack of consistency in color drives me crazy. It should not be hard to control since everyone that uses our logo gets licensed. My wife was shopping htis weekend and she said the store had 3 different ISU dress shirts and all were different shades of red.

Re: Why the different cardinal colors for ISU teams?

The issue with the colors has nothing to do with sweat or lighting. The football team has an Elite contract with Nike - meaning we get exactly what we want from them in terms of color. Only football has this Elite contract. The other athletic teams have it the same way that they always did - tell Nike you want this color and Nike will pick the most generic color that have that is close to it. With our old color scheme, we'd tell Nike we wanted "Cardinal," and Nike would send us back their most generic Red color, which was bright and McDonald-esque. Now, we tell them our shade of Cardinal is darker, so when we order new uni's in any sport, they send us back a generic Maroon color. Whereas the football team gets the accurate shade of Cardinal. It sucks, its B.S., and I don't understand AT ALL how Nike can make uniforms for the same school in one color in one sport and another color in another sport, regardless of "contracts." It's ridiculous.

I think a lot of the issue stems from the fact that we now have TWO shades of Cardinal - a brighter shade (which is still "darker" than the old Cardinal), and the deep/dark shade. There is absolutely NO consistency anywhere when it comes to applying these two shades...
