Even Iowa has USAV teams. Or had. I played club ball in high school in '89.
Volleyball is an awesome sport!! I play on a co-ed vball team in Urbandale. Not to hijack the thread, but does anyone know if there is any men's leagues in the Des Moines area? I would love to play more often and get a little more competitive. Thanks a lot.
Sounds like a great recruit for ISU...need to get to more vball games, very cool to watch.
Urbandale parks and rec had a mens league I played in a couple years ago.
Downtown Y used to have a mens league that was very competitive. Not your backyard style. I haven't played in that in about 10 years.
If you want to play at a higher level - get in touch with the Iowa USAV regional office and perhaps they can hook you up with a team, or tell you how to go about forming your own.
The best co-ed league in town used to be at North HS on Wednesday nights. Don't know it still is or not. Most of the better players there played on USAV men's or women's club teams.
West Des Moines parks and rec has some pretty hardcore co-ed leagues.
With VB being in the fall, you'd think that she could possibly be a multi-sport athlete at ISU. Maybe run track in the spring? I'm sure Ihmels would welcome her.
Thanks a lot guys...I will check into all of those options. The more I play the sport and the more I watch it the more respect I have for it. It is a very physically demanding sport. When it is played at a competitive level you really need to be in shape.
I am not sure why the person put **** for ****, but she goes to ****-New Hartford. She is commited to Iowa State! Texas and UCLA offered her also. Lots of schools also wanted her for track! I think Iowa State fans will be really happy when they see her play. The last time ****-New Hartford sent a good athlete to Iowa State "Lane Danielsen" he did pretty good.
My mistake I didn't know my old schools name was such a bad word that it would be blacked out with ****! :biglaugh:
This is outstanding. Congratulations Coach Johnson. I am very proud of what she and Iowa State Volleyball are accomplishing. She is building a program from scratch and proving you can recruit top notch talent to THE Iowa State University as well as keep the hometown kids at home when the big dogs come knocking.
5'11", 2A, from Iowa, at first I was a little sceptical, however, as a sophmore, she was picked one of the top 25 sophmores in the nation.
More, and more I am impressed with Coach Johnson. Last year and this year, I saw improvement in the teams through the seasons.
Took a set off Nebraska, and should have been up 2 sets up on Texas this year. Their errors on serving, and letting serves fall "in-bounds" need to improve, but I think they could be a surprise team in the NCAAs again this year with the right seeding.
Drawing over 1000 fans per game getting ISU volleyball noticed even more nationally in recruits eyes.
Keep it up coach Johnson. You deserve a raise.
Pics or it didn't happen. LOL jk jk
