She just doesn't give up
Iowa State University: Former Cyclone softball coach Rowe testifies in termination case
By TOM WITOSKY • twitosky@dmreg.com • November 20, 2008
Ruth Crowe's controversial ending to her nine-year tenure as Iowa State's softball coach - which included objecting to a pregame prayer at Baylor and branding Texas A&M fans "dumb farmers" - is on trial.
She is now fighting for back pay and damages for wrongful dismissal.
Crowe testified Wednesday that her firing on June 1, 2005, came without warning from former athletic director Bruce Van De Velde, who asked her to resign, then terminated her with one year left on her contract........
She had a 166-244 record and insulted almost every school we played and she doesn't think that her dismissal is "justified".
BTW- Since she was dismissed 3 years ago, the Cyclones have a 97-100 record with they best year being last year.

Re: She just doesn't give up
Well, it looks like Bruce VDV did at least one thing right...

Re: She just doesn't give up
You know, coming from at school like ISU, calling another team's fans dumb farmers just sounds absolutely ridiculous. The only bad thing BVDV did in this situtation was not fire her sooner apparently.

Re: She just doesn't give up
I had the opportunity to meet and spend some time with Coach Crowe where I used to work back in 2002. We hired her to speak at a coaches clinic that we put on, and I had to correspond with her, give her rides, bring her materials, etc. I would have to say that she was one of the most unpleasant people I have ever had the misfortune of knowing. Never had a nice thing to say. Considered everyone around her to be her subordinate. Very little in the way of common decency. Generally a ****. I see it as a great example of personal restraint that people put up with her for as long as they did.

Since when do you need warning before you get fired.

Did you see that the ***** won...... Justice at it's best.. Iowa State Athletics: Ex-Cyclone coach Crowe awarded $287000 -
Re: She just doesn't give up
Did she refer to herself in the 3rd person? You have to love Title IX, just hide behind that and no one will stand up to you.

Re: She just doesn't give up
The jugde that rewarded that was messed up. She didn't even ask for that much.

Re: She just doesn't give up
This could really hurt Iowa State's athletic Dept. if they have to reallocate funds to more womens sports.

Re: She just doesn't give up
So, if they reinstate her as the Softball coach, than what happens to the current coach? There is no cause to fire the current softball coach for any reason. I doubt a normal person would not want to come back to a situation where most of your colleagues testified against you. Let's hope she is more normal than I think she is.

Iowa is a right to work state, you can be fired with no warning for any reason. I am not sure how people sue for this kinda stuff.
