Behind Enemy Lines

Back in Nebraska for the holidays, pretty much torture. Thank God I'll be gone before they play their bowl game.

My little brother got a Husker hoody and white fitted cap with the red N on it. When he opened the hat he said "yes, this is what I wanted most!" I couldn't decide whether to puke and aim it for the new apparel or to punch him in the face. (chose neither fyi)

Then at the movie theater-I had forgotten how many people wear Husker crap on a daily basis. It was like 90%. Ridiculous. I would've rather seen everyone in hideous Christmas sweaters. One guy was wearing a T-shirt that said "BO BO BO MERRY CHRISTMAS" get real. Again had even a bigger urge to punch the guy in the face but chose not to.

Enough on my rant. Wish me luck getting out of here. Anyone else stuck behind enemy lines for a few days? Share your stories.

Plus Husker gear is the worst looking gear out there.

I have lived in the middle of it for about 5 years. I am completely numb to it now. I don't notice it unless I look for it.

I live in eastern Iowa and coming back home for break is torture. Every white trash, Wal-Mart loving creeper is a DIE HARD Hawkeye fan.

Yeah, we've been in O-town for about 1 1/2 years now, don't really notice much either. Except when I go to Hy-Vee on Sat in the fall, all of the employees are decked out in Husker crap. Pretty hard not to notice that.

We went to Old Chicago the night that Neb played OU. When the waitress came to the table, she asked us "are you here to watch the game?" When we said "no", she just looked at us like we were from another planet. I don't think people here can comprehend that not everyone in Nebraska is actually a Husker fan.

And by the way, none of this happens after football season. They all become Creighton fans for a few months.

I would have to say you are 100% accurate. The numbness starts to set in after a good year or two. For the last 2 years I seem to follow the same truck to work, 5 days a week. This truck is probably driven by good hearted Nebraska fans, if there are any. They have a thousand bumper stickers and the flags, yes, I said flags, one on each side of the truck. This isnt just in the fall, the truck is decked out like this for the whole year.

I should have waited to read your post. The thing that bothers me the most is the fact that they all become Creighton fans in the winter. They even cheer against Nebraska in the annual Creighton-Nebraska basketball game. Its crazy.

My wife and I went to the Neb - Ball State game in 2007 after we'd been here a few months. I think it was during a timeout or something when they played a commercial encouraging Husker fans to buy season tickets for basketball. Nearly everyone around us starting laughing and making jokes about how pathetic the b-ball team was and how they couldn't believe anyone could stand to sit through one of those games.

That's why I'm glad to be a Cyclone fan. It seems like we go out of our way to support all of our teams, win or lose.

I feel sorry for you Dinger, I really do. I think it would've been a wonderful family moment if you had punched your brother and puked on his hat.

Starting year 12 in Omaha next week. I still notice all the Husker apparel. We have someone at work who complains if people wear the wrong shade of red on Fridays before a football game.:confused:
The worst part is when I have to travel to someplace like New York City and these guys are decked out in the jackets that say NEBRASKA on the back as if anyone is impressed by that. They might as well have RUBE tattooed on their foreheads.

I'm back home in Iowa City for break. It's not too awful- all the morons that attend Iowa are out of town, so the only people I have to deal with are the morbidly obese folks decked out in black and yellow. Fortunately, they mostly hang around the Wal-Marts (not kidding at all), so they're easy to avoid.

My mom- who I've gotten to start cheering for the Cyclones- gave my little sister (who goes to a private school up in the Twin Cities) a pink 'Iowa' shirt for Christmas. I just looked at her in disappointment, and went, "Mom! Seriously?" Her response was, "When you're from out of state like she is, everyone else just assumes your shirt represents your home state! Right?...":mad:

i should make note... i did notice omaha was different in the time i lived there. it wasnt as thick as it is out here further to the west. i think omaha has quite a few people who arent from nebraska originally and these are the same ones who cheer for creighton during basketball season. part of the reason i cant stand them either... pick a team would you. natural or adopted, they are ALL fair weathered and it makes me sick.

SO yeah... getting ready to leave Cedar Rapids. Despite what my dad thinks about there being plenty of Cyclones in the area (Engineers at Rockwell), the media and retailers are definitly pro-Hawks, and only throw in token gestures to ISU :arghh:
