Re: Most colorful character in ISU history?
This thread is a fail if it doesn't include Orr from the beginning. McCarney should be in this discussion as well (although he is oft ridiculed for his incessant clapping on the sidelines).

Jackson Vroman.
I mean, seriously in one year the guy goes from the goth, vampire look to the faux-hawk and designer clothes.

Didn't Hiawatha Rutland try his hand at rapping and stand-up comedy?

Johnny was so darn funny about everytime he talked. It's hard for me to think of him not winning. There is a place in Ames that we get industrial motors from - Reese Elec. that has this poster still up in their building over by the power plant. Man do I love that poster.

Re: Most colorful character in ISU history?
I suppose I should've included Orr from the beginning. I guess with all of the recent talk of the Johnny Orr Project, etc., I just blocked him from my mind. I am trying to figure out who will still have the same or greater relevance 50 years from now. While players like Tracy Henderson were nice in their own right, will their legend grow or diminish with time? Who had the best nicknames? Who captured the imagination the most?
For example, for football, instead of Tracy Henderson, I might put down the Eel, even though he might've been a lesser player, because of his nickname-- the Eel.
There is a definite "big three" in wrestling: Gable, Taylor, and Sanderson. All colorful for their own reasons and will definitely stand the test of time.
Basketball... I or others have alluded to some of these people in my previous thread of ISU's High Altitude basketball players. ISU's high altitude bball players (ISU's High Altitude BBall Players; PLS HELP!>>>)
Thanks for all of the help so far-- and I want to echo my previous thought: if you were to go into a shop or whatnot, and there were products based on each of the characters that have been discussed, which one would appeal to you the most?

Re: Most colorful character in ISU history?
Mike Taylor, legend in the making.
And what about that ex-Pacers bball guard? The one that has been in some tough spots the last four years.
Looking forward to CFH magic for the next bball season, Georges style. -

Vroman is a good one. His "Vro-Hawk" was awesome, and of course the Snape from Harry Potter look was nice as well. Didn't he get busted for driving the wrong way down a street with his head lights off?
I would also nominate LaFester Rhodes.
