Holy Crap! He is getting guys to fight for dirt cheap! These payouts when compared to the ad revenue, sponsorship etc are pathetic.

Look at the payout from teh WEC event this past weekend. WEC IS owned by the same cats that own Zuffa! These fighters need to do something-their ability to negotiate is terrible!

Looks to me that this is WEC which is world extreme cagefighting, not the UFC which is what Dana White runs. This in no way is close to as popular as the UFC. It would still be interesting to see how much the UFC fighters make

WEC is owned by Zuffa. The difference between WEC and UFC is the weight classes.

I think I've read somewhere that some of the elite fighters can make up to $500K to $1M per fight

Uriah Faber is one of the most popular guys in MMA. 7k figures are rare!

500K occasionally...yet rare.

Faber fights in the WEC though. I should have clarified that I was speaking of UFC fighters. Fighters in the UFC make a substantial amount more than WEC.

I would not say 'substantial'.

If the WEC is the UFC's promotion for lighter guys(which it is), who often put on far better fights, why would the WEC fighters accept less? Just plain dumb. In fact this last WEC card was far better fighting/action than what we have seen in many UFC cards-imo

This one is simple. WEC fights on cable, UFC on pay per view. White has interest in both and can easily use that logic for his payouts.

The lighter guys usually put on more exciting fights but all of the big names are really in the middle, light heavy and heavyweight divisions, which are all UFC divisions.

The UFC is worldwide, the WEC has yet to achieve that fame. It is pretty clear why the UFC fighters can ask for, and deserve, larger payouts.

UFC has pay-per-veiw cuts as well for the bigger fighters. The WEC being on VS. network there just isn't that much more money coming in like the big shows. Plus, fighters don't make that much. You want to make it you either are fighting all the time, or good enough for sponsorship deals. imagine now out of your cut paying manager fees, gym fee, supplements, paying training partners to come in.... it goes on and on. Tough life, that is why I work on computers for a living

The top of the UFC card does get more, but the middle is far more similar.

WEC is THE promotion for the lighter guys. Yes, UFC has a larger footprint, and I can't seem to nail stats on this yet, but I believe the VS cards actually have more viewers than the PPV. Don't quote me on this because could be wrong. It also looks like the WEC is moving to PPV. In fact there was much rumor that Faber/Brown 2 would be ppv.

Randy Coture has voiced his complaints of this for years. The sport is just not big enough yet. They (the fighters) need some better competeing companys. Right now the only company making and money is Zuffa (UFC, WEC and all the other they buy up). It is kind of sad.
