    Re: Meet the Coaches Night

    Sure

    1) Kevin Jackson and Chris Bono are really jacked about this upcoming season, Bono has been wrestling with Mueller in the room and Reader just got back from Poland. They EXPECT a national championship this year.

    2) Bill Fennelly and Christy Johnson talked about making it to the Elite 8 for WBB and VB last year. Fennelly commented that we had a lot of turnover from last years team, so a repeat is not necessarily in order. Johnson said all VB players are back and they're rated in the top 20 in the country this year. We should all try to go to a match.

    3) McDermott is confident that this years MBB team is going to be the best in the last 5 years. Lucca may be a bit late coming back from the German national team.

    4) Rhoads was a bit hoarse from 2-a-days, but was very excited. Ended his speech with fire and brimstone, "hit them coming off the bus, and continue hitting them till they get back on!" Not much divulged on how he thought the team was doing. Talked a lot about the team's schedule (which can be found on Iowa State University Athletics Official Web Site - www.CYCLONES.com - The home of Iowa State Cyclone Sports)

How did the auctions go? Those were always my favorite with Schaben (Jon?) doing the auctioneering. That guy is hilarious.

I thought last year, the pocket books were a bit tighter than in the past (not surprising). Heck, the 4 person golf outing with JP went for about the normal admission cost. Perhaps a few extra $$$ this year?

Thanks for the rundown Cyco. Wish I could've gone. Would've loved to hear Rhoads

    Re: Meet the Coaches Night

What a great night. We were at table #21 and had a ton of fun. The food was outstanding. The folks that came with us won two of the bids (sideline passes for each game and trip to women’s Texas game where they travel with team, stay with team and get to have shoot around with team). The coaches were great, John Walters did a good job, most of the video compilations were really good. Women’s BB could have had a more rocking song for what they did last year with making it to the elite 8. Kevin Jackson was really good and I'd have to say CPR is a leader. Maybe not a master motivator but a leader. The man got up in front of the crowd and spoke for about 10min. Absolutely no dwell from word to word, sentence to sentence, story to story. Not once did he look at notes or anything. He continued through his speech and kept increase the speed and intensity of what he said. In the end I thought I was going to have to run laps. His exclamation at the end was "I am proud to be your football coach". Win or lose the man loves being here and I think the crowd felt the same.

On the way home my wife and I talked about how we can't wait for football season to start. I even think we'll take in a Vball game and go to a wrestling meet or two. Along with all the FB games and MBB.

For those who were there, what did you think?
