Cubs blog talks UNI v. Iowa, manages to rip ISU as well...
One of my favorite Cub's blogs, Thunder Matt's Saloon, has a post today about UNI.
They talk about what a UNI win would mean, then end the article with this:
Whatever your team is, here's to the dreams of a successful season. Unless you root for Iowa State. In that case, may God have mercy on your soul.

One less blog to read, don't click on it and give the blogger stats.

I want to know how any Cub fan can rip an ISU fan.

I'm sick of UNI right now. Their fans need to get knocked down a peg and realize they're not nearly as important as they think. I can't wait to smoke them in basketball this year and then crush them in football the next time they bring their sorry ***** to JT.

I'm tired of playing FCS teams. I'd rather play a game with some significance, other than a win.

You won your last World Series 100 years ago. Not 10 years, not 50. 100 years. -

In a lot of respects this is true, but the similarities between the Cubs and the Cyclones is outstanding in my opinion. Even down to attending games. The party outside is as big of a draw as the game itself.
I love it, we're an easy target right now. At least we don't think some curse put on us by a goat is the reason for our woes. Or that some diehard fan in the stands actually was the reason we collapsed and blew our best opportunity in 60 years to win a championship. Oh wait, we do call our fans out all the time for not doing enough to make us win. Nevermind... -

Splitting hairs here, but I really don't know that many Cub fans that blame Bartman for that debacle or that believe in the "curse." The "curse" is embraced more by Cub-haters IMO.
That being said, being a Cubs fan and a Cyclone fan can be tough at times. But to be honest, being a Cub fan has been easier lately. There are a lot of fan-bases that would like to be making the playoffs on a semi-regular basis.

Just wondering, because a lot of the fans I know here, not all, but a lot, believe that stuff pretty harshly. They try to sluff it off as a joke, but in the end, especially when they've been drinking, it all kind of comes out.

I find hard to believe that grown men believe in "curses" but obviously my experience has been different than yours.
The Cubs haven't won for 100 years to a combination of factors, namely poor performances in the World Series since 1908 and largely terrible teams from 1945 to 1984.
Playoff losses in '84, '89, '98, '03, and '07 were a result of being beat by better teams. '08 was a WS-type team but choked (much like one of Pinella's best Seattle teams).
Iowa State has sucked in the past due to population disparities, poor facilities (previously) and no favorable history to build on.
Now I'm depressed.
