and he knows NOTHING about sports... We had him at our table for a round at Cy's House of Trivia, he actually cost us points by lobbying for his WRONG answers.

Give Brent Blum and Chris Williams their own radio show. I am getting really sick of the 2 major sports stations (1460 & 1700) saying that they have balanced coverage for Iowa, ISU, Drake and UNI and they spend an hour talking about Iowa and then talk about high school football playoffs. Now that HB has made his decision there is no reason for these "Hawk Hosts" to even bring up ISU every show. Let's stop this dream of being fair and balanced and get a show skewed towards ISU athletics.

I know that this kept family and friends of mine away on Saturday.
Ever wonder why attendance always dips in November every year, no matter how ISU is playing? It isn't that hard to figure out.
Farmers are in the field and not in the stands. This has and continues to be one of the most ridiculous excuses pulled from the hat for poor attendance. 50k in Sept, 40k in Nov............20% of fans are farmers? I doubt it.

I doubt it. if 10% are and that 10% has wives that normally go to the games, then that is 20% of the fanbase. it could be 8% farmers, with 6% having wives, and 4% having kids that need to help on the farm-that would probably account for close to 20% too.

I doubt it. Yeah, it is really hard to believe that a school which this year (and typically) consists of an undergraduate of approximately 15% in the agricultural college could have 10,000 fans that are farmers. Or a state in which there are over 90,000 with agriculture as their primary occupation that 10,000 of them would be Cyclone fans.
Please take 5 minutes to look up facts before spouting off ridiculous excuses for a post.

There fixed it for you. Next time you are at a game look at some of the tent sponsors. Or look at companies that sponsor ISU. I won tickets at an auction from a Coop. Dirt cheap because the manager couldn't give them away because everyone is busy with harvest.

Re: Andy Garman
I was at the game, and was pretty disappointed with how open the main stands were. There were far too many empty seats for this being an important game.
Don't give me the crap "it's harvest season!"
The student section was full - and guess what, there are plenty of students who go home to help out on the farm.
There are also plenty of farmers who are Hawkeye fans, and I guarantee you'll see 65,000+ in Kinnick on Saturday. Using this as an excuse would be like me saying "during the winter, depression goes up, as do car accidents, so Iowa basketball attendance is so low because too many people are out performing surgeries or defending a client."
Suck it up and start showing up to support the team. JTS has been full in November before, so there's no excuse.

Re: Andy Garman
I already posted this last weekend after not being able to make it to the game but there defenitely is an attendance drop due to farming. First off my whole crew of about 20 that we tailgate with couldn't make it because of being in the field. My set of 10 season tickets that I share with my wife, kids and parents only had two people in them becuase our backup people that we give to if we can't make it were also in the field. Other groups that we tailgate with maybe had only 25-50 percent of them were there because of people having to work at the coop or be in the field. Obviously I hang out with alot of fellow farmers.
Another thing to think about is that the early season tents bring in a bunch of farmers that would other wise not come to a game. I have been to tents for Agrigold and DeKalb that had 500-1000 people come through before the game. Most are farmers that were given tickets by their dealers or dealers that got tickets from their reps. Put a couple of those at the early season games and that's alot of people. Last year against SDSU some of the Ag tents had their largest attendance ever because of the proximity of farmers that were SDSU fans as well that got tickets to the game. It allowed the dealers and reps from South Dakota to hand out tickets to ISU games and come to a hospitality tent. Where do you think those guys are in November?
Farming has a big direct affect on attendance later in the season, it always has and it always will. I am only 30 years old but have been coming to games since I was 3 and can honstly say that the people I have met through ISU games that one out of every four or five are connected directly to farming or their spouse is.
I just laugh when people say that it is ridiculous that farming has no affect on attendance. Apparently they don't pay attention to what state we live in.

the stadium will not get anymore full in Nov until we win more and the wagon hoppers start showing...just like Iowa

Re: Andy Garman
I was at this game but I'm not going to give anybody a hard time for not going. There are a million reasons not to go to a game and shame on me but there are lots of things I put before the cyclones.
If there is a game going on I would love to be there, but it is not a priority by any means. I have young kids that I love to spend time with and they have activities they are involved with. I have an extended family I like to see some weekends. Some people have to work (farming or whatever) some people are involved with their church. Money is tight for some people right now and a full saturday at the game can add up. Other things come up.
If people want to go they'll go, but hey if the seat next to you is open get over it and just cheer twice as loud. If watching a sporting event played by 18-22 year olds is the most important thing in your life and comes before all else you probably need to re-evaluate your priorities.
