Directors Cup
I know that this doesn't mean anything( ), but ISU finished their fall sports at #22 in the Directors Cup. That is ahead of Notre Dame, Alabama, Nebraska, Oklahoma, A&M, California, and way ahead of Iowa as well as many more. Only two Big 12 schools finished higher in the fall rankings, Texas and OSU.
It is the highest ISU has ever been coming out of fall and the first time ISU got points for four sports in the fall rankings.

Re: Directors Cup
I love this part for the Pollard haters: Pollard’s impact on Iowa State athletics success is affirmed by its across the board national success during the fall of 2009 compared to past seasons. In the four years prior to his arrival at ISU, the Cyclones did not even score points in the fall standings. The improvement since Pollard came to Iowa State in 2005 has been steady. The Cyclones were not ranked for the fall of 2005, ranked 91st nationally in 2006, 68th in 2007 and 43rd in 2008. -

ISU is about alot more than fball, mens bball, and wrestling.

Re: Directors Cup
I think that this shows that you can be successful in all sports no matter how the budget looks. You just have to have the right people in the department.

Re: Directors Cup
I think the general public ranks an athletic program based on football and basketball success. The directors cup I think is a way for university administrators to look at athletics in a way that makes the university care about all sports.

Re: Directors Cup
I care, the Directors Cup shows the whole Athletic departments ability, not just Football and Basketball. We should be Proud to be a top 25 overall Athletic Department, and we are doing that with alot less Varsity Sports than our Competitors. So I think it is a very good thing. As I am sure someone who likes to have ISU succesful at as many things as possible. Sometimes folks have very small minds when it comes to what the meaning of an Athletic Department is.

This is true but the fact of the matter is often times your football program defines the entire athletics program. When you think of a school, often times the first thing that pops into people's minds is the name of their head football coach.
