Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

This could have been something separate, but the Alumni Association or someone connected with the ISU phone center has people call for marching band donations....and it usually isn't an actual marching band member. I was in band at ISU, and people will call me occasionally, and I will ask them if they are in band. The standard response is, "Not at ISU, but I was in high school..."

There are a few that are actually in the band that also work out at the ISU foundation, but they're acting as call center people for the ISU foundation. I don't know if they have the students call specifically for the organizations they're in or if it is by chance that they are making calls for the band.

Those look really good. I wondered why the pep band couldn't get new shirts. It's not like any shirt costs THAT much. The pep band members should be able to foot that bill themselves. Probably didn't, but I have relatives who had to spend $400+ for JR High cheerleading outfits. This is just a hockey jersey.

They looked a little out of place before. Great job by whoever was in charge of the change.

If they're so easy for college students to buy, why aren't there more of them?

Custom Hockey jerseys cost about $100 if you want them to last you any sort of decent amount of time.

More of what? The jerseys? Probably because they had them made special. All I'm saying is that they were probably, what, $100 each for 30 some members? No matter who is paying, there shouldn't be that much of a holdup. Turns out it was the manufacturer's problem, which makes sense.

$4000 might not seem like a lot, but the Music Department is so strapped for cash that we can't even get pianos in all of our practice rooms. As big of a Cyclone and marching/pep band supporter as I am, academics are a WAY higher priority for what tiny amount of money there is. I had to wait in line for 45 minutes yesterday just to get a piano to practice for my class. If you're such a high roller, I'm sure the department would be able to put a $4000 cash donation to very good use in the athletic bands.

I also remember a game with Kansas when Cy (wore a huge suit then) went out to center field, squatted, and "pooped" a couple of chickens that had been dyed blue then chased them around.

they buy a total of around 100 jerseys for both of the basketball bands and I believe the volleyball band.

Actually, we have two basketball bands: one for MBB, one for WBB. Overall, they bought about 100 jerseys. Total cost of the jerseys was $10K. Music departments don't have that kind of money just lying around. Just one new sousaphone costs almost $4K by itself.
