The lower deck won't really increase capacity all that much, but it has numerous other benefits.

I gotta go with the stadium. I really think many posters have hit it perfect when they mention that the hill side seats are ok in the fall when the weather is still nice, but in winter when it is simply freezing - the ground is not so fun!

All the lower deck really does is replace the south hillsides. It looks better, and it's a hell of a lot more comfortable come October and November. If we build that lower deck, look for attendance to hang right around 50K, which is about how many physical seats we would have.
In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection. -
Re: McD or Endzone?
I also wonder what the AD plans for the student section once the bowl gets done. I could see them having students in that endzone.
Considering the two biggest groups ive seen in the hillside seats tend to be families and recent grads that dont have much money for tickets, the student section down in the endzone with a lot of recent grad cheap seats might be cool, and you could probably sell the current student section seats for a lot more than students currently pay for them.

Re: McD or Endzone?
I only want the endzone done if it keeps JTS seating less than 52,000. Any more than that and plan on a lot of empty seats for end of season games.
With that said.. I had to vote Buyout for McDermott. I want to watch top 4 Big 12 talent play in Hilton. I want to have a great basketball program again.
We have been bottom 4 (saying it nicely) in the Big 12 for a long time. Its old. We beat nobody. We NEVER pull off upsets.

Id say we need to build up to about 60k. (which is what i think we'd be at with the 2nd deck of the endzone). Even if you only sellout a couple games a year, you pay for it.

Im not into the idea of building Memorial Stadium East or West Kinnick.
I wouldn't increase JTS seating much at all. We barely fill it now. Unless you made the entire endzone students... and offered more $99 dollar season tickets.
Small packed atmosphere is much more fun than an empty big stadium.

Re: McD or Endzone?
This is dumb. Different sports, different facilities, different financial situations, different everything.
Buying out McDermott's contract has nothing to do with football. At all. I don't think we'll get rid of McDermott this year or next year, but if it's status quo next year, he's probably gone. But it has nothing to do with the football stadium....
