Interesting fact, just 2 of the 24 football and basketball facilities at Big 12 schools are named after a corporation: Texas Tech's Jones AT&T Stadium and Colorado's Coors Events center. Say all you want about how naming rights add to the budget but seems like the rest of the Big 12 schools are able to do it without selling out naming rights to their venues. To add to that the 2 that have sold naming rights what exactly have they won of note with the extra funds? Last time I checked TT FB is OK but still 3rd in the south to Texas and OU and maybe even 4th behind OSU now too, the basketball nothing special and Colorado's FB and BB both suck.
What needs to happen is the Big 12 to restructure their TV contract so that the rich schools aren't getting richer from it and the programs that could use the money like us get an even share of it. Split it evenly 12 ways not by how many times you appear on TV like it is now.
Haha, and there it is just like clockwork. The same stuff that you see in the basketball threads. The definition of a true Cyclone fan has to be somebody who realizes that we have the smallest budget in the league, subpar facilities, no relevence on the national level, hardly any relevence on the conference level, and not a lot of W's in out history, and is totally committed to not change a damn thing in order to preserve the status quo that we all know and love. Anybody that wants to try to shake up the establishment in an attempt to better our position in the world is not a true fan.
What kind of fan wants to embrace being at the bottom and falling flat on their face repeatedly? The Cubs make a killing as being the lovable losers, but even they hope for something better and actively try to make it happen. But not at ISU, we cling to the bottom of the barrel like grim death and fight to the last man to hold on to what is rightfully ours.
I'm sorry, but I think a lot of us would really like to see ISU win a conference title or make a BCS bowl game in our lifetime. How do we get there? With big wins and some good recruits. How do you get that? Good coaches and good facilities. Where does that all start? Money. Which right now we don't have.
Jack Trice is important, and it is great that we have honored him as we have, but is the purpose of the football team to honor Jack Trice or to win football games? It may make us feel all warm and fuzzy as ISU fans, but I would guess very few fans outside the ISU community know anything about it. Just go ask an SEC or PAC 10 fan if they know about the only stadium named for an African American. After they say no, tell them about Iowa State. After they get done giving you props for your Hawkeyes or Buckeyes or whatever they mistake you for, you can go back to your warm fuzzies and mediocre football and relative obscurity outside of the Midwest.
If we aren't going to do everything within the rules that we can to make our programs as successful as possible on the field of play, I don't know why we would even bother to field a team at all.
Totally, 100% agree. Same old "We lose, but at least we lose classier than anyone else" attitude. Yeah, the Trice story is great, but I don't go to games every year to sit around the Jack Trice statue. I go wanting to watch ISU WIN.
