Cyclones continue climb in Directors' Cup standings
After ranking 25th nationally in the Learfield Directors' Cup (formerly Sears Cup) standings at the conclusion of the fall athletics season, Iowa State has jumped up to 19th in the winter standings released last week (March 25). The rank is Iowa State's highest ever in the standings, which are a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and USA Today to recognize overall athletics program excellence. Following a third-place finish in the national wrestling championships and a 10th-place finish in the national women's indoor track and field championships, Iowa State is the third-highest team among Big 12 schools in the standings (Texas A&M, 12; Nebraska, 17). The next standings will be released April 8 and will account for Iowa State's Sweet 16 finish in women's basketball.

This time it isn't even the 'haters' doing it, it's the 'supporters' stating the 'haters' are going to start something.

Why can't this just be about how great this is for ISU athletics without assuming people are going to complain about how things are going.

I think that this shows that our athletics department as a whole is moving in the right direction. Hopefully people donated yesterday and will continue to donate to this up and coming program.

ISU will drop a few spots because MBB and men's swimming are also added in to the next release. Texas won men's swimming, so they will move past ISU. The Cyclones should be 4th among Big 12 teams unless OU WBB shocks the world and wins the title.

OU will also probably pass ISU when gymnastics is figured in, bumping ISU to 5th in the league.

Just like not a lot of people were complaining a whole lot when the director's cup standings were low, I don't think you'll see a ton of people celebrating the last few years' improvement. Just the way it is. We could be in first place but if FB and MBB were horrible, no one would care a lick about the director's cup.

Of course they won't there isn't anything to ***** about. If we ranked low, they would be coming out of the woodwork.

I know I get caught up the recent woes of our mens basketball program and football program but its good to see something like this and take a step back and realize that overall this administration has done a good job building a solid athletic program.
