ISU 22nd Nationally in Learfield Sports Director's Cup
AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State women’s basketball team’s second straight NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearance and the ISU gymnastics team’s NCAA Regional qualifying effort helped the Cyclones finish among the top 22 teams nationally in the final 2009-2010 Learfield Sports Director’s Cup winter standings. ISU was one of five Big 12 teams in the top 25, finishing at 22nd, one spot ahead of Texas.
“I want to congratulate our coaches and student-athletes on what they have achieved so far this season,” Iowa State athletics director Jamie Pollard said. “The top 25 includes the best athletics programs in the country and happy to rank among those schools nationally.”
The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution’s finish in up to 14 sports nationally.
