ISU men's golf coach Jay Horton resigns
AMES, Iowa – Iowa State men’s golf coach Jay Horton, who for the last 11 seasons has directed the Cyclone men’s golf program, announced his resignation effective immediately.
A native of Ames, Iowa, Horton was named interim head coach at ISU in 1999 and took over head coaching duties the following season (2000).
“It has been my pleasure to coach the men’s golf team at Iowa State the past 11 years,” Horton said. “I thoroughly have enjoyed all my experiences and opportunities at Iowa State University, but I have decided to pursue other opportunities for my own career. I felt it was in the best interest for myself and this program to make this decision now rather than later.”

Was this expected by anyone? It seems that after the Hoiberg hire we've been in the middle of a crapstorm.

That sucks... Horton was really bringing in some talented players and they were starting to put up some very good results.

Phil Mickleson for head coach. Let's get it done. Oh but interview Tiger Woods first so George Raveling can't critisize our hire.
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

Re: ISU men's golf coach Jay Horton resigns
So, do we hire a minority for the golf coach now to get the media off our backs for the Hoiberg hire?

An opportunity of some kind has come his way and he felt like he had to take it I am sure. I doubt it was an offer from another school but it was definitely an opportunity in the golf world of some kind.

Re: ISU men's golf coach Jay Horton resigns
I know several of the Men's Golfers...and i'm paraphrasing here...but they call him a "Fat, worthless, piece of ****"
I'm sure most of them are happy he's gone. One player who transferred last season told me that he felt like the coach wasn't helping him develop as a golfer.
was this a mutual agreement...either resign or get let go???

About time. He never took the team to post season after a very successful run in the 90's and he was extremely rude to the public at the courses. His players were usually nice at least and from what I heard from a few of them, they absolutely hated him.
