Cyclone baseball
Is there any chance we get baseball back? Is the reason we lost it only because there wasn't as many women's sports as mens?

The gap in our economy is between what we have and what we think we ought to have--and that is a moral problem, not an economic one. - Paul Heyne -

No. The one and only reason we lost baseball was money. They could add a baseball team right now and be in compliance with Title IX. I would bet that with the added Big 12-2 money, bringing back baseball is closer now than it has been, but that money is not stable long-term and they really need to funnel money into the revenue producing sports. Besides, if anyone really cared about baseball, you'd think that they would have drawn more fans when they actually had it.
If I were making the call, I'd add hockey over baseball. They already have a decent facility and better infrastructure for hockey.

I would attend both events if they were added. But to me there is nothing better than watching some college baseball

Re: Cyclone baseball
If hockey became D1, could it possibly play games at Hilton instead of the current arena?
-
Re: Cyclone baseball
you realize that the only reason our hockey team is so good is because we have players that were formal professionals at some level. at least a few of them have been paid which would make them automatically ineligible if they went from a club sport to a D1 sport. plus we need to beat lindenwoods *** next year

Re: Cyclone baseball
Baseball would be great for ISU.
The Big 10 is pathetic at Baseball and they openly admit it, where as they deny it for other sports like Football. Iowa State would be the only choice for good kids in upper midwest who want to stay close to home, but play in a good conference.
But there are alot of costs for ISU to field a quality Baseball team. You would need a quality ball park and an indoor practice facility. It would make no sense to add Baseball without the needed facilities to field a quality team.

Re: Cyclone baseball
Ha, I love it. I can't help but laugh every time the ISU baseball thread pops up. Seriously, if the ISU fanbase would have shown half the passion for baseball that we see on this message board, we may still have a team. The fact of the matter is we played in facilities that weren't much better than a high school, and despite free admission we didn't draw a better crowd than most high schools.
Now considering we battle Baylor every year for the smallest athletic budget in the league, and the gap between us and the top keeps getting bigger, where do you think we should be investing our money? In Men's BBall and football, where we earn a positive return, or in a money pit like baseball where nobody will go to the games and we probably won't be very competitive most years? Think it through people, it isn't hard.

Re: Cyclone baseball
ISU is a long way away from bringing back baseball and to be honest, I would hate to see it if it meant using the current facilities. The way I see it, there is nothing wrong with adopting another team in sports in which ISU does not compete. My kids and I are big OU Sooner baseball fans and have enjoyed going to their games for years. Thousands of fans, great hecklers, lots of giveaways, great videoboard with an impressive entrance video, and a winning tradition.
ISU is not in a college baseball town and I don't see that changing.

Think it through people, it isn't hard. You are right...the attendance at Cap Timm Field was pathetic. I love baseball and lived only a couple of blocks away from Cap Timm while at ISU and I only went to a handful of games during my time at ISU...a couple to see Robin Ventura when he was on his long hitting streak.
As an FYI, Baylor has a very nice baseball facility that they refurbished several years ago...looks like a miniature Oriole Park at Camden Yards.
The bottom line is that money needs to be reinvested on bettering our two revenue generating sports...FB and MBB...not plowed into non-revenue generating sports like Baseball.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes. -

How many times is this going to come up?

(It may also pop up as a new thread if any of the CF members has a great run playing the EA Sports college baseball game on PS2).

Re: Cyclone baseball
ISU baseball sucked and nobody went to the games. That is why baseball sucked.
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

That being said, I do believe it is time for the baseball resurrection talk to end. It's just not going to happen anytime soon.
