If you want a real college experience, go to ISU. At the U of M, you're in a huge city and most of the city doesn't rally around the school like in Ames.

660 isn't too much more than my current rate,and its so much nicer of a course.

Don't want to rile people up too much but how bout a good wels/els lutheran church in the area...Thats my parents (and my) one negative at this point.

My brother went to ISU for 4 years and loved it. After he graduated he went to UM to further his studies and I think he liked it there, but there was one difference. While he was at UM he and a female classmate of his were walking to the parking lot after class at night and 2 guys came up behind them and held knives to their throats and mugged them. They wer'nt hurt but it kind of shows the difference of a big city college and a mid sized city college.

I had my van hijacked in St Paul. Crime does exist in the area.

It looks like there's only one WELS/ELS church in Ames and it's a little farther out south of town.

I know there are big differences between WELS and the other Lutheran synods. Memorial Lutheran is LCMS and right across from campus. I'd say it's more on the "contemporary" end of LCMS, though, mostly because they have a lot of college students.

Back to your Veenker rates....on Mondays and Thursdays, students can play 9 for $10 or 18 for $15. Its a great deal. You should also check into the ISU Golf Club

Memorial Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod) 2228 W Lincoln Way (across the street south of the Union) is the largest Lutheran Church near campus - 20 years ago (yikes) lots of students went there.

I'm ELCA and after going to Lord of Life Lutheran Church (behind Buchannon) 2126 Gable Lane and St Andrews (near the west side of campus) 209 Colorado; I liked Memorial Lutheran the best. Both Lord of Life and St Andrews are ELCA.

If you have a car or can get a ride then Bethany Lutheran Church is the nearest Wisconsin Synod Church. It is in a subdivision south of Hwy 30 and just off of Duff Ave. More than walking distance from campus.
