That was 1971 and was probably one of the top three best games ever. After that game, which was at the time called the "game of the century", NU went undefeated, 13-0, and whooped up on Alabama in the Orange bowl. Oklahoma went 11-1 and demolished Auburn in the Sugar Bowl. I think those two finished number 1 and 2 in the nation. If I remember correctly, Colorado, 10-2, ended up #3. Iowa State only lost to those three and went 8-4, losing to LSU in the Sun Bowl. LSU was 9-3 for the season.

Agree
Re: Best College Football Game Ever?
Tex-USC in Rose Bowl. I also still really like Colorado @ Mich when Kordell thru the bomb that Westbrook caught to win on last play.
Re: Best College Football Game Ever?
Arkansas' 58-56 win over Mississippi in seven OTs - 2002
Alabama's 12-10 win over Tennessee with Cody blocking a last second FG to secure the win - 2009
ISU's 15-13 win over Iowa with the last second FG to win the game - 2007

Cal v. Stanford is always a cool moment to see too.
The Cal- Stanford has to be one of the craziest finishes with the kickoff return through the band with no time left. The 2002 ISU-Ia game was definitely a tale of two halves and was a great party in the driveway watching it with all the neighbors.
Re: Best College Football Game Ever?
Based solely on the game, the Boise St vs. OU game was slightly better than the '05 Texas vs. USC game. However, given the circumstances (National Title) the Texas vs. USC game was the best ever.
Re: Best College Football Game Ever?
05 Texas and USC
more at stake > Boise and OK.

At halftime he is still fired up...we are still down big. We come out and score in the 3rd and now he IS JACKED. I am still annoyed and still feel it is a lost cause. We score again. Now, he is no longer annoying. I am not in his world yet but getting close. By the time we go up, I am high fiving this guy, hugs, my headache is GONE...shame on me for doubting. Awesome day, and to this day still cannot believe we came back and beat them.
In the span of about 90 minutes, I went from being the most PO'd I've ever been about ISU football to just about the most excited I've ever been about ISU football. What an unreal game.

For me, it has to be Oklahoma vs. Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl. That was insane.
One more week!
#1 Nebraska 35, #2 Oklahoma 31, Thanksgiving Day, 1971. The game was billed as the "game of the century", and after winning, NU went on to an undefeated season, 13-0, to win the National Championship. I bring this game up all the time to my hawk friends. They go on and on about how ISU hasn't scored a TD in 3 years. I just say, "ya maybe so, but how does it feel to lose one of those games?" I had to work this day and was getting play by play from my brother over the phone. Went from pure joy, to uh-oh when iowa damn near ran the kick back, to pure joy again.
Re: Best College Football Game Ever?
Texas-USC National title game, BSU-OU Fiesta Bowl and ISU-Iowa 2002 highlight this decade for me.
Going into the memory bank I'd say some other ones that standout in my mind are the Notre Dame-FSU game in 1993, the Flutie Hail Mary game and the Nebraska-Mizzou game in 1997 where NU forced overtime on the last play with that freaky TD pass that bounced off like two guys
Re: Best College Football Game Ever?
All of the games listed are good, i'd personally vote Texas-USC.
I also think that '03 Fiesta Miami-Ohio State NC Game should be thrown in the mix even though Miami got insanely screwed in OT.
edit: after reading the wiki about the game and remembering more of it, I think this game was better than Texas-USC, and I hate to say that cause I hate Ohio State so much.
