I bumped into Ashley's grandmother (I have known her family almost all my life) last night and it entered my mind to ask if Ashley was going to come back next year...but I didn't...didn't think it was right to do so. Her grandmother was beaming and so excited to talk about Iowa State with me and said at least 10 times in our conversation "you know the TEAM is really good...so many good girls playing on this team". Kept deflecting the praise I aimed at Ashley specifically. It was fun to have a conversation out loud in a public space in Cedar Rapids about how great things were going for Iowa State basketball (mens and womens)! So...nothing to report other than it felt really good talking to her and seeing all of these people wearing Iowa hoodies standing around listening! Go STATE!

Finally got around to the final update of the season. Notes:
  • Ashley finished the season (and her career?) tied for sixth in career threes made, matching Carleton.
  • Ryan ended the season with 249 assists on the season. She is 11 ahead of Moody's old record of 238.
  • Ryan ended the season 9th in career assists at 413, but she'll likely jump up to sixth after her first game next season -- she's 1 behind Ezell and 2 behind Gahan and Horvath.
  • Donarski is at 13.7 career ppg, which is tied for #10
  • MEM finished #9 in single-season 3pt%.
Ashley hit both of the milestones I was tracking:
  • She broke the scoring record Feb 16 @ Texas. She is 220 points past Welle.
  • She hit 1000 career rebounds Feb 26 v Texas Tech. She now has 1,081.
---------------------------------------------------------------
3-POINT GOAL PERCENTAGE
minimum 50 attempts (since 1989-90 season)

Now that we know that she is coming back can you add where she stands on the B12 scoring list?

She will likely catch Riley for number 2. Would need 915 points to eclipse Griner.
She's been just shy of 700 points each of the past two seasons (more games but lower ppg this season). With the emergence of Ryan and Donarski, I don't expect her scoring to go up next year -- so 915 points is a pretty high bar.

I'm happy to have Ashley back, the team next season will benefit from it. The only thing that bothers me a bit and this is of no fault on Ashley either is now she is either going to break some more records, add on to ones she already owns, or move up the all time lists a few more spots both at ISU and Big 12 with a 5th year when most that set those records and rankings did it in just 4. I'm not blaming Ashley one bit for wanting to come back or saying it is selfish but the additional Covid year is going to make some of these records awful hard for someone to break in the future with only 4 seasons to do it.

Please don't get negative on me about this, I am just pointing out the obvious and opening it up for some friendly discussion on how others view this dilemma. She broke the records she owns right now in 4 seasons but if she has another season close to the level she has played at the last 2 some of those are going to be damn near impossible to break in 4 years probably.

I have been saying this for a while before Ashley was even in the picture on it. Jordan Bohannon's big 10 3 point record is the poster child for this. Between his shortened medical year he got to repeat and the extra COVID year he had an extra 41 games. (Even if you take the fewest games played year as the extra COVID year.) That is a huge advantage to setting and holding a record. Those two seasons account for 100 of his 455 made 3 pointers or about 22% of his total.

Bohannon even got a 6th year in. Granted he only played 10 games in that one but he has 179 career games which is the most eve too. Guess who is 2nd on that list... Brad Davison of Wisconsin. They are #1 and #2 in most career minutes play too

I always thought the covid year thing should apply if covid hit your team hard and you missed out of a good portion of your season due to it, but then I guess people would cry unfair so they had to make it universal. It just really rubbed me the wrong way that record books in schools across the country will be unfair to those who just had the usual 4.

If other teams are gonna do it I guess we might as well too. Again like the posters above I'm happy to have her another year.

Just note her 4 year records and then the extra year additions and compare the 4 yr against 4 year players and then overall total. There were a number of players who used this year as an extra and many who will use the extra next season. Much is made about the three point record of Robertson from Oklahoma and she is coming back for an extra year. You can make foot notes on the records I am just glad she decided to use what was provided for her.
