I loved watching Cheryl Miller play. Getting this award is awesome.
A short article on her: http://thegrundyregister.com/conten...sau-hall-fame-during-spartan-state-title-gameSome interesting players who would be on the 3pt% list if they qualified (100 career attempts):
- Kim Van Deest, .500 (94 attempts) -- don't know anything about her, other than she played 89-90 though 91-92. She'd be #1 on the list if she qualified. In fact, she probably should be #1, since you could give her 6 missed attempts and she'd still be #1. But Frese and her .453 on over 600 attempts clearly deserves to be #1.

My initial guess was Ashley or Megan Taylor. I'm a little surprised Taylor is so far down this list and Carleton is so high up. Cole, who was more of a pass-and-defense-first guard, is by far the lowest in ISU history. Jess Schroll at 3.49 is next (which does surprise me a bit). After that it's Morgan Kane, with her low volume plus high FG%.

A lot of the same people as the 3FGA list unsurprisingly. You aren't taking a ton of threes unless you can make a decent percentage. One notable missing name is Frese, who is #8 in 3FGA/40. ISU has never had another volume 3pt shooter who could make threes like she could.

I expected to see Moody here since she leads ISU in career turnovers but she is #16 here. Her high turnover numbers are more a consequence of how many minutes she played. Emily Ryan is way down the list at #33 -- there are only 86 eligible players on the list.
We've had athletes who could rebound. But Francis was the only Cyclone who I swear had spring-loaded legs.Desiree Francis, best hops of anyone who has ever suited up for us. Sill the only gal Cyclone I've seen just jack-in-box straight up and snatch a rebound out of the air with that special panache.
Van Deest, not surprisingly, does not register with most even long-time posters here. She was pre-Bill, pre-success and I think played into the last season of Pam Wettig's forgettable WBB coaching tenure.

I met Pam at a publicity function and was impressed by her. Pam had several players she introduced then and I remember one of them being Van Deest. I saw Van Deest's name a while back associated with another Iowa State WBB player Amanda Zimmerman when both were part of a trio inducted into the Iowa Girls' Basketball Hall of Fame.
The main connection I made with this time, though it was a few years after leaving Iowa State, was alluring Patricia Wettig being Pam's sister on some popular TV serial. Don't remember the show's name, though.
I read the mred's link and get the impression Van Deest is active locally but living understatedly-kind of like her career at Iowa State,

Desiree Francis sometimes gets overshadowed since she was only at ISU two years (juco transfer) and played with many all-time greats (Frese, Taylor, Welle, Gahan), but she was a monster player for ISU. Cole is unsurprisingly at the bottom of a lot of these volume lists -- she was primarily a passer and defender. She's over a point and a half lower than the next one, Denae Stuckey (who also fits that description).

No surprise that the player with the greatest motor in the Fennelly era leads this category. Also props to Stephannie Smith, a juco who is #2 in both points and rebounds per 40. Another high-up appearance by Francis as well.
It really says something that Morgan Kane, who doesn't have the physical skills of many others near the top of this list, is so high up. You can get a lot of rebounds with intelligence and effort.
Williams was a perimeter shooter and perimeter defender who didn't really crash the boards, so this makes sense. Frese and Buckley are the next lowest in the BF era.

ISU in the Fennelly era has had a lot of great point guards, and this list is full of them. Only one top-10 player is pre-Fennelly, and these stats go back to 1980. Topping the list? Everybody's favorite point guard. (Recency bias blah blah).
Bottom of the list is mostly posts, but one notable exception is the second-lowest BF-era player: Aubrey Joens at 0.92.

This list is the opposite of the prior one: only one player in the top 14 arrived at ISU in the Fennelly era: Desiree Francis, who is a mainstay on these lists.
Even though Fennelly teams aren't known for steals, it's shocking to me that the lowest 20 players on the list are all Fennelly-era players. 9th lowest is 2022 Big 12 defensive POY Lexi Donarski. Fifth-lowest is Maddie Wise, who was a very solid defender. Steals aren't everything.

If I had to guess who would be atop this list, I would have guessed DMACC's newest head coach, and I would have been correct. No real surprises here. Emily Ryan comes in at #17. Frese and her 1 career block in three seasons was easily the lowest. Next was Erica Junod, who had 2 career blocks.

She was a high-level player who had the advantage of not being a freshman at ISU, so her ramp-up time was more limited. She also had a small sample size since she only played 1 3/4 seasons at ISU -- she had one season at Nebraska, lost a season of eligibility by transferring to ISU (Big 12 intra-conference transfer rule at the time), missed the first several weeks of her junior season while pregnant, and then played a full senior season. Since she was only a 20-25 mpg player anyway, she only played 1204 minutes for ISU, which is slightly less than Ashley, Emily, and Lexi each played this past season alone.I'm amazed how high up on these lists Katie Robinette is. Remember her but never would have guessed she ended up that high in that many categories.
