    Cubs need to score more than one run on eight hits, however. Two earned runs across eight innings should get it done in most games. Has Hottovy been interviewed recently? I'd be curious as to his take on what's been happening, since he's the guy who answers for the pitching staff.

    Tries to keep the starter in longer based on how the bullpen has been sucking, and then boom. Two run dinger. Going to have to fix the pen at some point.

    Palencia has looked good of late when they have limited him to one inning. Not so much when they tried to extend him further.

    There's no way they will trade Shaw at this point. And (at least to me) the players you mentioned seems like it makes for a very imbalanced trade (not in the Cubs' favor).

    Wow this bullpen pitches so erratically. How can Counsell have any confidence in these guys when Palencia looks like he can strike out anyone one inning, and then completely craters the next?

    Cubs announcers made a good point on that....as do you trust Neris' command enough with the bases loaded not to walk a guy in? He walks a lot of guys.

    That last inning was an unfortunate ending to a scrappy game by the Cubbies....but we simply do not have other guys to throw in there to pitch in pressure situations, and with Wesneski pressed into service tonight, there's only so much you can do. Frustrating.
