    2010 Basketball

There is a lot of excitement and talk about 2011-12. I don't think we will be as bad as everyone thinks this year. I said after the K-State win last year that DG's biggest problem was he felt he had to defer to CB at all times. When he was out of the game, DG took over. If he plays even close to that this year, it is a good start. Throw in Phillips, Scotty and Jake at the 2, and I think we have a pretty good set of guards. We are admittedly thin in the front court. I have trouble even keeping track of who is elgible.

Who will be starting this year?

I'm not falling for my own thoughts this year. We are going to be bad. Be prepared for it.

I am at least blindly optimisic 2010 could be a decent year in hoops with all the fresh faces. Kind of like I was about my Chiefs, and heck they are 3-0.

    DG
    Scotty
    Ejim
    Godfrey?
    JVB (Ugh)

I don't know, the forwards to me are a mystery right now.

We will be bad. That actually may be a good thing for Hoiberg. I'd prefer that he learns the coaching ropes with a less talented team than the team that is anticipated next year. There is no pressure on wins this year which will give him the chance to get experience rather than get worried about win totals.

I think that Phillips may get a look at starting. Perhaps a small lineup with,

    DG
    Phillips
    Scotty
    Ejim
    Godfrey/Mcknight/Railey/JVB

We will all sound like Cubs fans this year. "Wait till next year" should be the team slogan
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

I knew I was forgetting someone. Phillips should definitely be starting.

I agree that we might not be THAT bad. I would say with Lutz as an assistant we'll be better coached than the last 4 years and quite honestly, besides Brackins, I don't see how our roster is worse. So, worst case scenario, we are as bad as we were any year with GMAC and I could stomach that for FH's first year. Maybe it's just my cardinal and gold shades or the beer I had for lunch, but I got a feeling we make the NIT this year.

These are your 2010-2011 Iowa State Cyclones – Depth Chart:

    • Point Guard: Diante Garrett (Senior)/Darion “Jake” Anderson (Redshirt Senior)/Bubu Palo (Redshirt Freshman)
    • Shooting Guard: Scott Christopherson (Redshirt Junior)/DeMarcus Phillips (Junior)
    • Small Forward: Melvin Ejim (Freshman)
    • Power Forward: Calvin Godfrey (Freshman)/Eric McNight (Freshman)
    • Center: Jamie Vanderbeken (Redshirt Senior)/Jordan Railey (Freshman)

I’m not ready to give up and look toward 2011-2012 before the season even starts. I think this team is going to overachieve. Go Cyclones!!!

    Re: 2010 Basketball

Why don't we assume that we are going to be Iowa-level terrible and then we can be pleasantly surprised if it is different.

Hoiberg was on the halftime show during the UNI game and he did not sound optimistic AT ALL about this year.

I think we will be equally terrible to Iowa. Maybe slightly better. ISU fans just have reason to be optimistic about the future of bball. Right now I don't think Hawk fans do.

ISU fans do have a lot to be optimistic about in regards to the future of ISU basketball especially when taking into account the 2011-2012 roster which will include talented transfers: Royce White, Chris Allen, Chris Babb, and Anthony Booker. This is not even to mention other talented newcomers such as Tyrus McGee, Tavon Sledge, Elgin Cook, and Anthony Odunsi.

Fred is obviosly building the team for a break-out year in 2011-2012; however, I love ISU hoops and I'm not about to give up on the 2010-2011 season before it even starts. I believe we can overachieve this year and then really break-out next year.
