    Low-end W-L expectation

Not long ago, in my "ISU picked to finish last in the Big 12" thread (I think it was "Prepare to be Humbled"), I got some flak when I posted that the MBB team could realistically finish around .500.

Consensus is, the roster & coaching staff is too unproven to expect much this season, but next year is promising.

I reviewed the schedule again yesterday, just to see if I was being unrealistic.

I flip-flopped on a few games I had penciled in as wins — and I still came up with 10-21 as an absolute low guess.

That included beating no one of any substance in non-conference (9-6, including being swept by the in-state teams) ... and 1-15 in the conference (the lone win, Nebraska at home).

I don't want to expect too much this season, but I can't see the record being much different than the previous 4 or 5 years.

Does anyone think I'm still being too optimistic?

I am guessing we finish around the same record as last year. I personall dont think we'll be that bad where we get under 13 wins. So yeah im guessing like a couple games below .500 probably.

I'm guessing 10, but I haven't really looked at the nonconference schedule. Really, what is the difference between 10 and 13 wins? I just want to see improvement in the players and coaches over the season. A couple of conference wins late would really help toward getting the team ready for next year.

No, I meant was I too optimistic to think 15 or 16 wins was realistic?

    10 wins is my cellar.

Some fans think 11 or 12 wins is the ceiling.

    Re: Low-end W-L expectation

    I would say 12 to 14.
But honestly it doesn't matter as long as they play
with effort and and improve through the year.

    Re: Low-end W-L expectation

People are being pretty realistic in my opinion. 10 at the low end; 15-16 at the high end; most likely 12-14. I think 13-15 with 2-3 wins in conference. I hope its better than that but I'm giving the team a pass for this year. I'm with Cyforce, as long as they play with effort and improve during the season I don't care what the final record is. Can we fast forward to next year now?

    Re: Low-end W-L expectation

I think we can easily win 10 games this year, if the new guys play REALLY well.

But I dont see anymore than 13. Im going to really enjoy each and every win, this year more than ever.

I suppose if we're below 10 I will be mad, but other than that I really don't care how we do this year. I'm just excited to see if Fred can hold his own and to see our new uptempo offense.

I think people will be surprised this year. We have guards now we just have to hope that 2 freshmen can pan out somewhat. (ejim and godfrey hopefully) If so we have a somewhat decent team. Is the NIT in question probably not. But i do see us going .500.

I do not see how people think Iowa is going to beat us in basketball. They are worse off then we are. But i think a .500 record is acheivable

It's OK to be mad, just make sure it's at the right person.

Six "lose-able" preseason games: creighton, drake, UNI, Iowa, Cal, Virginia (only two fo those at home.

SixTEEN "lose-able" games in the b12. I think we'll win at leat four.

    I get 13 wins worst-case....
