    Basketball Blog: The forgotten Cyclone

Here are some exclusive Cyclone MBB notes that you won't find anywhere else. I spent some one-on-one time with Coach Hoiberg yesterday and learned a few tidbits...One interesting fact is that the Mayor recently found a kink in DeMarcus Phillips' shot. Read on.

No kidding. I was wondering why no one was talking about Phillips for the last several months? Everyone was so high on him when he committed.

Good info. Kind of reminds me of Jeff Hornacek having his shot adjusted when he got to the NBA and becoming an even better shooter. Our basketball program is in good hands.

    Great stuff Chris.
I often forget about Phillips, although I was pretty high on him when McD was here. At the very least, he is a different type of guard then we have had the past few years. Athletic, can break down the defense, and rebound...
How is his outside shooting? Hopefully he can have the same impact as guys like Horton and Nurse. Does anyone know if Nurse was a good outside shooter before coming to ISU?

i'm sure demarcus will contribute positively to our team. i see no reason to compare him to hornacek, horton, or nurse.

    Uh, why not?
I could see how for some it would be too soon to equate him to Horton, Nurse, Hornacek. Good thing no one has. That said, I do not see a problem with it. What impact does it have?

If I remember correctly Nurse was a good shooter when he got here. Floyd or LE compared him to Tim Hardaway when he was recruited. That was obviously a HUGE stretch but he could definitely stroke it.

Chris Allen scored 35 points...probably best we don't know who was guarding him.

There were Mike Taylor comparisons floating around at one time. Those very well might be overly optimistic, but I dont know one way or the other as Ive never seen Phillips play.
