Williams: Cyclones go nuts, blow out Bulldogs
My thoughts on Iowa State's drubbing of Drake. Enjoy. http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/basket...tty-with-drake -
Re: Williams: Cyclones go nuts, blow out Bulldogs
Some response:
1) GMac does not know these guys inside and out. He has seen three of them play for him. Three. He doesn't know squat about this team.
2) I understand the student situation after someone made the point that a 5th year senior at ISU hasn't seen a .500 team yet. .500.
Who can expect them to jump up and down right now to see us play?
I believe we'll see the student turnout build as wins and excitement build. I think this team and coach are making a strong case to the students to show up.
I also don't think the students are the only ones who need to focus on showing up.

This is an *** whooping that we're watching tonight fanatics. No other way to put it. Might be the title of my column after the game...
... I like this title better. When Prepared, Fear No One. -

There were massive amounts of open seats in my section, at midcourt in the balcony.
its going to take some time to rebuild hilton magic. hell, i was there 03-07... and there was no magic in the mcdermott years, and even under wayne, there were definitely magic moments but things were definitely on the downturn for 'hilton magic'. The good thing is, Hoiberg is showing that we might still be able to bring it back.. and his style of play definitely helps.

And the three players who Mac recruited to ISU (DG, SC and JVB) are a pretty big part of this year's Iowa State team. We aren't talking about reserves here.

I took a moment tonight, looked around, and wondered what attendance would have been like if GMac had stayed.
I'm pretty sure I would have been sitting there almost by myself. Maybe IcSyU and a few more suckers for pain.
No doubt in my mind Hoiberg turns that around. This one is going to open some eyes locally, and I suspect he knew that going in.

Yes, but based on comments from guys that left, I completely doubt that he was very involved with them or their recruiting. I'm going to stand by it: He doesn't know squat about our team, but we can give him something to remember on Sunday.

For those who aren't going to the game are missing some very entertaining bball. The contrast in styles from the previous regime is night and day.

But heading into tonight, 57 percent of this team's scoring was from the 3 guys who are still around from last year. Mac knows those guys. There is no way around it. I completely disagree with what you wrote about but it isn't that big of a deal. To say that he doesn't know DG, SC or JVB is simply not accurate.

I'll give you those three (and maybe more for credits ).
At the same time, those guys, especially DG, are a little different than they used to be.
Disagreement's OK. There's room for that around here. -

I never missed a home game for 2 years of the WM era (1 good/entertaining year, 04-05) and 3 years of the GM era (0 good years).
I can't wait to move back and get season tickets! Hopefully, next season on our way to the Big 12 championship and a deep run in the tourney! When Prepared, Fear No One. -
Re: Williams: Cyclones go nuts, blow out Bulldogs
If GM goes off what he knows about DG from last year it will be way off. It's almost like he is a completely different player. Step back shots, strong finish, he didn't shoot well from the 3 tonight but it has definitely improved. Is it the system or did he improve that much in 1 year?

Dear Iowa State students, You stink. Sincerely, Chris Williams Wanted to comment on this...
This is a Wednesday, only a couple weeks before finals week, so we are getting tests jammed down our throat. I didn't want to miss the game, but I am paying a lot more money for my classes than I am for season tickets. Believe it or not, most of us are here for school and not sports. I love Cyclone athletics, and it hurt me to miss it, but I know what is more important.

Of course, my vacation starts at 3:42 PM Thursday, and I'm counting on that in a big way.

But, that might be because I had my priorities mixed up sometimes. Which might explain why I failed a class my last semester during my 5th year and had to comeback for spring semester to re-take it. I can't say that I was really that mad though, minus the money part of it.
