    How good are they?

How good do you guys think this years team compares to teams from the last couple of years. I personally think they are playing great and I love to watch the up-tempo full court offense.

    What do you guys think?

I'm not sure what to think yet, Drake looked bad, real bad. We'll see when they play a decent opponent.

We were running and scoring a lot of points in the first 6 games last year too. We only had Dendy for one game(the opener) during that stretch. We were all excited about our prospects at this time last year.

    Re: How good are they?

    It was different last year.

The chemistry is all different. In Jan., if every freshman hits the wall at once (likely), it'll look rough for that spell, but they'll come through it.

This team has actual leadership, in coaching and among the players, and that's going to make a huge difference.

Too early to tell, but to me, it looks like Fred's system is designed to let players make plays, which seems to be opposed to the McDermott system where it felt like the system was designed to win games, and the players had to shoehorn into it.

    Re: How good are they?

They are winning the games they're supposed to win, but I really like the way they are playing defense. Practicing against a possibly Top 25 team day in and day out will certainly make them better thru the season.

A lot of people keep saying, "just wait until they play a good team." A lot of people thought Northern Az and Drake might give them problems. I submit that if you are practicing against really good players, who are pretending to be your next opponent, if that opponent is not as good as who you practice against, you should beat them handily, and that is what's happening.

It's only been three games...two against cupcakes. Revisit this topic in the middle of the Big 12 season when we'll actually know what we got

We are still essentially a bare-bones squad with around zero post presence.
From a fan perspective, how can you not like hustle and defense?
I'll refrain from starting a war about last year's "better talent".

Rivalries are difficult to predict, but solid BCS teams typically destroy weaker teams from lower level conferences.........check. This team has not been challenged yet, but they should respond well with senior and upperclassman guards.

    Re: How good are they?

We are going to lose some games. Probably really ugly too.

But what I am looking for this year is a team that plays hard for them and their coach and a team that seems to WANT to be out their playing for Iowa STate. If we do that pretty consistently all year, I'll be happy.

Love the new-look ISU squad, so fun to watch.

I'm really liking this guard dominated team. If they get hot, who knows what can happen on a given night.

But matched against, say...K-State, they're gonna beat us like a drum. I think a team with athletic bigs, that can make hay down low, will own ISU. And you know what, it doesn't bother me. We are who we know we are and I'm totally fine with that.

    Re: How good are they?

Not as good as our record indicates. Thin team with no depth and not much of a power game. Once teams figure out how to guard us, will be a challenge to win a lot of Big 12 games.

Fred's doing the best he can with what he has to work with.

    Re: How good are they?

This team compared to last year is very different. Both DG and SC look much better than last year, and adding Jake to them makes this a REALLY GOOD guard court. They seem very smart and are not making stupid mistakes. However, we are very thin in the bigs. An injury to a big is going to hurt us. ISU will knock some teams off because of guard play.
