McDermott and ISU Fans
I hope ISU fans will be classy today and applaud when McDermott comes out. As much as I was glad to see him leave I think he is a good guy and tried to do his best at ISU. It was just that things didn't work out and he did the best thing he could for ISU by talking the Creighton job. Thanks Greg!

He did nothing for this program and left for his own good, not ours. To me he is a less-sleazy Chizik. Most people don't share that viewpoint because he is from Iowa and all but that's how I feel.
I respect you guys that are taking the high road with this but I personally don't appreciate anything GM did here.
This my moment to boo him like I've wanted to the last two years. Let me have that so I can move on.

Re: McDermott and ISU Fans
Would you applaud Gene Chizik?
McDermott did FAR more damage to ISU than Chizik ever did. Yet Chizik is vilified and McDermott gets a pass for "being a nice guy". **** that. McDermott was a thief. He took millions of dollars from this University and ran arguably it's proudest program into the ground, then ran away.
Why do people celebrate this man?

Re: McDermott and ISU Fans
There will be plenty of booing for McD (I will just sit there and stare).
He was one of the worst employees in the history of the university (athletics).
He turned the MBB into a wasteland/and he basically stole loads of money/and affected athletes in a negative way.
That "swell' guy tag will only carry so far.

Re: McDermott and ISU Fans
No reason to boo the man.
Disappointed in anyone that does.

Re: McDermott and ISU Fans
I will applaud him because I'm happy that he left. He did ISU a huge favor by leaving because Pollard wasn't going to fire him with all of those years left on his contract. And comparing him to Chizik is a bad comparison. He was open with Pollard and ISU about his interest in the Creighton job and didn't ignore Jamie's phone calls and texts and didn't tell ISU and the Ames community that he and his family were "firmly entrenched".
Towards the end of the McD era, I didn't like him as our head coach, but I do like him as Creighton's head coach (just because it means he isn't ours).

Re: McDermott and ISU Fans
Here's my equation for how much I will boo McDermott:
(Number of games below .500 for his ISU career) + (Transfers out) - (# of tourney or NIT appearances)
9 + 14 - 0 = 23.
I figure if I boo him at every timeout, I can reach 23.

Re: McDermott and ISU Fans
there's one important difference between Chizik and McDermott. McDermott left the cupboard almost completely bare. Chizik left Rhoads something to work with.

Re: McDermott and ISU Fans
I'm a terrible fan, I won't be there for the game. But if I were, I would want to boo the guy inside, but probably chicken out when he walks out. Totally agree that he did more harm to the BB program that Chizik did to the FB program.
"I think that people are responding to someone standing up and saying this is what we want to do and let's not be afraid to go for it,'' Pollard said. "I think Iowa State has a very conservative, modest background. We never pound our chest and say `Let's do it.' It's OK to set a goal. You can't do it if you don't say what you want to do. You should be proud of it.''

Re: McDermott and ISU Fans
I think it would be appropriately to politely boo "The Torpoedo"!

Re: McDermott and ISU Fans
Applaud him? For what, being a nice guy?
He did nothing good for this program and took lots of $$$ in the process. I don't give a **** if he is a nice guy, it doesn't make up for everything wrong he did for this program.
I'll probably be one of them booing. Sorry.
