I'll stick to the objective statistics. Except statistics don't tell the whole story. I'll stick to the fact that I have GONE to the games and can SEE LIVE ACTION which shows me that we play more up tempo.

So I thank you for your invitation, but I'll decline.

Re: Statistics National Rankings So Far
Even Ken Pomeroy admits that there is more to the game than just compiled statistics. I have always been a fan of his, because I like his statistical analysis. But even he will admit that there is a human factor that can't be measured by his own numbers.

Then you understand why people feel the way they do. I guess in my book, tempo is a lot more than just the number of possessions, it is about pushing the action in a game. The last four years we rarely if ever pushed the action. This year we look to frequently. Would you agree with that assessment?
And for the record I have no idea why you feel the need to be so rigid in your definition of tempo to ONLY be defined by the number of possessions. This team looks nothing and plays nothing like a Greg team. Anybody who has watched any of the games this year acknowledges that.

So I thank you for your invitation, but I'll decline. He used to be kinda sneaky about it. Now he forces himself to veil it behind terms like "we" and "our boys."
His agenda has been clear to me for quite some time.

His agenda has been clear to me for quite some time. He's not real subtle.

Re: Statistics National Rankings So Far
I don't think people should dismiss the statistics because they don't match what you see. Obviously this team has gotten to that tempo stat in a very different way than the previous team, but it's something (neither good nor bad) to keep in mind while watching that although the team pushes the ball alot, that (so far) hasn't resulted in a dramatic increase in possessions per game. In other words, the stats should be used to color your view of the game, and your view of the game should be kept in mind when reading the stats.

I think it's valid to question your memory of last year, because that's the part from which the stats are disagreeing with you, not this year.

Re: Statistics National Rankings So Far
I just listened on the radio, but I suspect the Creighton-ISU seemed to be a lot higher tempo than it was due to the lack of dead balls.
We did fire up quite a few bad shots early in the shot clock last year after five seconds of dribbling and one pass. It was quite slow, but it'd contribute to a higher KenPom tempo stat, even though the pace of play was still slow.

We also play more intelligently, which makes longer possessions feel like they have a chance of a scoring outcome.

I said that we are playing faster this year than last year. I also said that looking a possessions doesn't tell the whole story. Anyone who has a pulse knows we didn't play fast year, I don't care what the stats say.

We don't stand around waiting for CB to get open. We move the ball around so much better than last year that this could be part of the reason it feels more up-tempo than it may actually be. I still stand by thinking that we play much more up-tempo this year than last.
