Compared to what other teams have done in the Big 12, I think that's a pretty fair ranking two weeks into the season.

Seems about right at this juncture, although I can't see why Tech would have been projected to finish 7th to begin with.

Re: BigXII espn-affiliated blog rankings
Not to sounds too negative, but we are so thin with our rotation, that even one injury could put us at the bottom of the list. I really hope we have a decent season. I'm worried about how sustainable this team is. We have people playing 40 minutes.

We have never really ever had depth, even in the Tinsley-Fizer years. Good teams usually only rotate in 8 players a game.

40 Minutes is nothing these guys are athletes. I'm sure Fred is aware along with the assistants and will not overwork them in practice. But 40 Minutes to a well shaped college aged kid is not that big of a deal. It's only twice a week, a lot of people do 40 minute work outs more than that.

With the 40 mins, I'm not worried about running out of gas. I'm worried about someone getting hurt.

He was short of bodies also and his comments were funny about players having to play the whole game. Something like its only 40 minutes and they are in shape. The team may be in the best running and basketball shape they have been in the last several years. Yes an injury would make it thinner but the team will deal with it--or not.

During our 99-00 run to the Sweet 16, when we could/should have been a final four team, Ficer, Horton, Tinsley, Nurse, and Stevie Johnson all averaged around 37 minutes per game at the end of the season. Shirley and Rancik were both injured most of that season and Fizer'd proven in previous years that he's best if you don't make him play center. We played most of our starting 5 40 minutes a game, and made a 6'5" guy play center against the likes of Chris Mihm.
It can be done, and has been done at ISU. It's all about conditioning and heart.

I still marvel at the fact that Stevie Johnson didn't foul out of every game in the first 8 minutes.

I echo the comments above, plus there's tv timeouts every four minutes of play, coaches timeouts, halftime, and free throws.
