#40 for Chris Street
I saw the question asked and I will give the best answer I can.
After Chris died Johnny Orr Decided that someone from the state of Iowa on the Iowa State team would wear the number 40 from hear on out. I know Fred wore it one year and we have had someone wear it since then.
I think last year we finally did it long enough and the tradition was ended. Personally they should have put a how long type number on the number of years someone would wear it. I think they just decided that Iowa State had honored Chris enough.

Re: #40 for Chris Street
I'd like to see ISU do the same thing with #3 to honor former Cyclone Brian Pearson.

Re: #40 for Chris Street
Also...Iowa State only has one active Iowa-native on the roster in Bubu. He would have been a 1 year old at the time of Street's accident. It was a great tradition, but I think the time had come.

yeah, good gesture but okay we have stopped now.

It was above and beyond that ISU even elected to do this and I agree it's probably gone on long enough. (This coming from an Indianola grad also.)
Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving. -
Re: #40 for Chris Street
i always thought it was given to an Iowa born player. I say keep it going, being from Indianola its still a sore subject when brought up. Why did Harrison Barnes pick number 40 (not a statement just wondering if anyone knew)

Yeah that would have been nice to honor Brian Pearson. I am not really sure we did anything to honor him. He was a great guy.
We also had a kid that came here a few years ago, then transfered to somewhere in Nebraska. He ended up getting killed in a car wreck. Can't remember the kids name. I think it was Brandon something.

Re: #40 for Chris Street
It just seems that a tradition isn't something that goes away after a few years. I'm sure there are a ton of traditions at schools all around the country that the athletes have no knowledge of the origin.
What ever happened to truth, justice and the American Way? -

HB looked up to Austen Arnaud when they played to together on the Ames High basketball (Austen was a senior, Barnes was a freshman). Austen wore #4, so he chose #40.

That was Zach Fortune from Bellevue Nebraska.

Re: #40 for Chris Street
I never knew this, cool tradition.
The real question is has Acie Earl stopped shaving a 40 into his hair? jk
I remember when this happened. Sad. I was in middle school. I remember the T-shirts that came out for the Chris Street foundation. They were white w/ black lettering and had some great quote on them. Anyone remember?
Also, has Jess Settles graduated yet?

Are you sure that's it? Arnaud's a RS Senior this year and Harrison's a Freshman. That would make Harrison an 8th grader when Arnaud was a senior.

No he got 2 rebounds against Wake Forest the other night.
Zach Fortune was the kid that died.
