Ernie kent basically said Cyclone Alley
sucked. When the other announcer ask him what he thought of our crowd compared to Oregons crowd. He said that the Oregon Student section is really loud and our student section basically just cheers sometimes.
This is clearly an embarrassment to us old folks who remember when Hilton was top 3 rated place to play due to how loud it get's and how we will our team to win. This team would not have lost that game 15 years ago. We would have willed them to win. it's too bad.
Jamie needs to go back to the old student seating chart next year. Student in all 3 levels and spread out. Right now it's just coordinated cheering and it is horrible.
When the announcers of the game basically call you out you need to change something.
Oh by the way Mr. Kent. His name is Diante not Donte.
Nobody but HB knows for sure. You pretty much know nothing....like Knownothing would like to say.

I watched the Oregon/Mizzou game the other night, and it was nothing special, in fact Hilton was better if you compare these 2 games.
Ernie is so biased its not even funny.

I agree he is biased. however I would agree with him seeing is how I know what Hilton is cappable of and what it sounds like now.

Really? Another Cyclone Alley thread?
I think that today's game proved that CA (and the Hilton crowd in general) can and will be loud *IF* the team on the court is giving them a reason to be loud. It's not Cyclone Alley's fault that every student older than a freshman has seen nothing but disappointing basketball seasons as long as they've been in college.
Also, 15 years ago most of the people in that student section weren't even in elementary school yet. I'd imagine you came into Iowa State your freshman year with Hilton rocking. Most of them became ISU students during the McDermott era. BIG difference. I can guarantee they will be loud if the team starts to bring consistent success, but you can't blame them for not being as pumped up about ISU basketball as you were 15 years ago when the team was already good.

As much as people bag on CA, on TV it looked like the non-student sections were dead excepting small packs.

Hilton used to be louder because the fans cheered to pick the team up too, not just when a good play happened.

Re: Ernie kent basically said Cyclone Ally
It really has nothing to do with Cyclone Alley, IMO, as much as it has to do with everybody in the stadium, students included, just being afraid to cheer. I agree there is a problem, I just don't think it can be easily blamed on the fact that Cyclone Alley exists (besides, the Hoiberg jerseys are sweet).
Students who sit in the upper half of Cyclone Alley aren't very loud. And adults seem to be opposed to standing and cheering unless something really good happens. Sometimes I would look and see a few scattered adults try to stand and make some noise, and nobody else would respond. It's a lot the same at football games, where people look at you like your weird if you try to make noise on 1st or 2nd down. It did get loud at times, to be fair, and I wasn't there in the 'good old days' to know what it used to be like, except as a kid which usually skews your view anyway.
I still love Hilton, and I think it will get rockin again if we start winning. In the last 2 minutes or so it seemed like people were just waiting for us to lose, because that's what we're used to. CFH also complimented the fans on the postgame radio show, so maybe it's not as bad as we think.

Re: Ernie kent basically said Cyclone Ally
Are all fanbases as obsessive about fan participation and attendance as we are? I don't care how many are at the game, I just hope we win.
"For the great enemy of truth is very often not the lie -- deliberate, contrived, and dishonest -- but the myth -- persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic. Too often we hold fast to the clichés of our forebears. We subject all facts to a prefabricated set of interpretations. We enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought."

The only thing I would add is that it's hard for the upper half of Cyclone Alley to get loud when there's hardly anybody in the upper half of Cyclone Alley. I was disappointed in the size of the crowd in general--not just CA--for a Saturday game against a major conference team. But again, more wins will bring more people.
I've said it before: It took more than a few games for Hilton Magic to decline as much as it did, and it will take more than a few games for it get back to where it was.

He was talking about Washington wasn't he???
The campaign starts now. November 6, 2012. -
Re: Ernie kent basically said Cyclone Ally
It has everything to do with Cyclone Alley. There was never a problem until students moved to the current seating.
Students need to be spread throughout...no argument from me.

Re: Ernie kent basically said Cyclone Ally
The problem is not Cyclone Alley. The problem is the parquet where corporate seat holders just sit the entire game with no passion for the Cyclones. I understand we have to sell these tickets or provide them to corporations to make money, but to me it's killed Hilton Magic.
