I agree that the student section still needs a little bit of work, but we aren't the only ones at the game. Students only make up for a small amount. I feel like the rest of the crowd needs to get more involved as well. I understand they don't want to stand an yell oooo the whole time that's cool. But it's not just the student section.
A good "environment" will always start with an engaged student. Name one great home court advantage in College bb that doesn't have a great student section. You can't.
With about a minute left on the pre-game clock I was worried we were going to end up with only 200 or so non-students in the parquet. They all snuck in during player intros. I know ISU fans are notoriously "late-arriving", but that was taking it to a new level.
And I completely agree with you.

Fact is that the basketball crowds don't really start firing up until after Christmas break.

Living in Arizona, I cannot go to games, so I really can't complain. The Cal game was on TV here in Phoenix, and I must say I was disappointed in the crowd. Late in the game, there was a timeout, and they showed the Cal bench. You could see about the first 5-6 rows behind the bench, and NOT ONE PERSON was standing. Most were leaning back, arms crossed, not making a sound. I know we aren't Duke, KU, UNC etc. But in most gyms the fans behind the bench would be making it impossible for them to even talk during that timeout.
I guess we have to win more to earn that sort of support.
