Hoiberg's calm style is the right approach

Solid article by Keeler from the DSM Register... Having a team with so many young/new players and a new staff I think CFH style works well for this group. As these young players find their shots/roles in CFH's offensive system we'll see more consistent play.

Does anybody remember how Fizer would get frustrated offensively and Floyd would sit him down to clear his head? I think we're seeing some of that with Melvin...

Oh, what's that? He wrote something positive about Iowa State? Okay, nevermind.....

The Clones took some ill advised shots yesterday. If we are going to force a shot up, we need to draw a foul. On the other side, the rub plays allowed many open shots for Cal. We should emulate that shot choice if we are going to play a slow down game. We need to have improvement on shot selection as we run through our offense. DG had some tough points at the end because others were not able to help him out. He is still the key to this team. And JVB can play better. Let's see what he can do against Iowa.

I keep reading we are a young team. Yes, for playing together maybe, but we have three seniors. The use of young team should not apply much linger. Will we also be a young team next year or an assemblage of talents?

I go negative on the Register, kxno, local tv, more than most; i think keeler is fair with both ISU and iowa with his criticism. I also think he's a good basketball writer.

If you're a Hawkeye shill right now is the easiest time to be nice to Iowa State.

ISU seems to have the right coaches in place, is improving and there's a lot of reason for optimism... but still hasn't beat Iowa head to head in football for a while. On the basketball side a Hawkeye media homer can be kind to ISU because they have been so horrible they really can't bump their chest out in a rational way.

We'll see how fair Keeler is if ISU has a better season than Iowa in football again. Or if Fran builds Iowa into something decent, but that decent team is still worse than ISU like the early 2000s were in hoops. The most obvious time to spot the Hawk homers in Iowa media was when ISU football team was better for 3-4 years in a row even though they were improving under KF and our basketball team was elite while Iowa's was just above average average.

It's always easy to spot hawk homers in the media, especially when there's a possible free Rose Bowl trip at the end of a season... :smile:

Next years team will be considered young. Your looking at a lot of sophmores and frshamn getting a lot of minutes. Ejim, White, Godfrey, Babb, Sledge, Railey, all underclassmen. Also this years team was assembled during the off season, while next years team will have been playing with each other for almost 2 years.

The best games (imo) are between two lunatic coaches. I'd like to see the 2000 Cyclones against this year's K-State team, coaches and all, in a basketball game... Could be the most intense environment ever seen.
