Things DG Did Well
He played great defense and he was a big help crashing the boards. Say what you want about his shooting, yeah it hurt us, but hid play very hard in the other areas. The other thing, it seems like his intensity and drive to win this game was pretty high. I think the energy he brought kept our guys playing hard. With that said, if he just shoots a little better, this could have easily been a double digit victory.

I agree. He grabbed some really big boards with some aggression, and a couple of times, I was surprised to see that it was DG coming out of the pack with the ball, as the forcefulness of the rebound made it look more like a PF snatching the ball out of the air.

Coolly handled the press.

Re: Things DG Did Well
I rewatched the 2nd half this morning and DG was really good in the 2nd half.
He has to keep shooting. He has a better chance of making the shots if he takes them when he feels like it rather than as a last resort. And more importantly, we are limited enough this year that in order for us to win, DG is going to have to score points. I suspect that if we had a legitimate low-post threat, DG wouldn't need to shoot as much as he has.

Re: Things DG Did Well
DG's defense was straight up lights out last night. Especially in the 2nd half. That no-look steal was the dagger, IMO.

I agree. He pushed the ball well and ran the floor. His motor ran the entire game. Yeah his shot was off and it looked like he took some forced shots just trying to things started. He did have some very good dribble penetrations and always seemed to find the open shooter. Hopefully his shot will come back. Or realize not to shoot some of the the shots he took. Defense was awesome.

We handled the press phenomenally, it was so great to see. Never again will we bring the ball up the floor and then stop at the half court line and wait for the trap.

.........with a 5 on 1 break only to stop at half court and set it up for a shot clock beating 25 foot twisting 360 fade away jumper.

Does anyone know if Iowa forced any turnovers off of their press, last night? I tried to think of one and couldn't, but I could be wrong. I guess there was that one when Ejim dribbled off his foot, but I wouldn't say Iowa's D forced that. Can anyone think of any others?

Re: Things DG Did Well
For the first time I saw DG show emotion...it was after one of the three's by Scotty. I loved it.

Re: Things DG Did Well
DG was our leader. He played stellar defense and made some important hoops in the 2nd half.
on the front page we had a thread bashing DG another saying SC could be a NBA player. just watch - next game DG will score 20 and SC will score 10 and we'll freak out the other way with "what's wrong with Scottie?" and "DG is BACK!"
so bi-polar around here.

Re: Things DG Did Well
And don't forget, Scott may have sealed the deal but we were only up 4 with 17 sec left and DG came up with a HUGE steal and took it the other way for a easy lay-in.

Re: Things DG Did Well
DG did some great things when he did what he is great at doing, shooting is not one of his stong suits, although he has had games when he has shot much better this year. Every player has an off shooting night, after you make 1 of 15 it is time to start trying to get someone else a shot.

Re: Things DG Did Well
DG played well in the 2nd half, because he got back to playing his game. Spot shooting 3 pointers with a hand in his face is not his game. Slashing to the hoop for layups or kick-outs is.

Re: Things DG Did Well
Props to the OP for starting this thread. Yes, he had a horrible shooting night but ISU wouldn't have won that game without him.
