Sluggish Cyclones limp past Texas Southern

Re: Sluggish Cyclones limp past Texas Southern
It's one day before finals and two days after a draining Iowa game, an off night was to be expected but I'm glad they made sure the game was never in doubt.

Re: Sluggish Cyclones limp past Texas Southern
This was also the first game Texas Southern played with their best player (the pre-season POTY in their conference).

Took too many 3's today when they weren't falling and gave up too many offensive boards. Other than that, not really anything that anyone should not have expected coming off a big Friday win.

Also, since I didn't mention it in my first post, I always enjoy the quick posting of the postgame press conference.

Re: Sluggish Cyclones limp past Texas Southern
I'll say worst performance of the year. This was a 1-6 team that came in ready to play. Their guards were quicker and had DG on his heals all night, bumping the player every chance to slow them down. Luckily we did enough to win....I'll forget about this one and move on.

Typical game McD would have lost.
good win after very emotional win over Iowa.

Re: Sluggish Cyclones limp past Texas Southern
Sluggish maybe, but after a hard fought game Friday I'll take a win anyway we get it.

Also, look at their schedule up to this point:
L 60-46 @Drake
L 79-67 @Wichita State
L 82-52 @Oklahoma
W 66-60 @Oregon State
L 75-52 @Oregon
L 84-60 @Kansas State
L 70-64 North Texas
L 65-54 @Iowa State
I don't think this is your typical 1-7 team. I'd bet they finish well above .500. I'd still say we had a little bit of an off night, but it wasn't at all our worst game of the year.

Re: Sluggish Cyclones limp past Texas Southern
Best player back or not, don't kid yourselves. That was not a good basketball team. Not by a long shot.
The UNI game was on the road against a great coach and a team that will challenge for an NCAA Tournament spot in the MVC.
Last night's game was at home against a team that will struggle to finish in the top half of the SWAC.
It was the worst game of the season and like many of you have mentioned, the Cyclones found a way to win. Not all teams can say that, so they're doing something right.

I agree that they weren't a typical 1-7 team. I still don't see them as a good offensive team overall, except for #24, whose name I already forget.
It has to be true that they win some of those games with him in the lineup. Drake, WSU and North Texas, at least, were potentially very winnable for them.
But we did find a way to get the win, and that's the part that really matters.

I was actually really impressed with that team's size and athleticism. They have some potential NBA talent on that team. Chris - not sure if you listened to the broadcast, but they had high praise for their talent. The pre-season conference player of the year was back for the first time this year and he's a player! If they had some decent coaching they would be really dangerous.
Also, I think you're going a little overboard on UNI. They aren't very good! I saw Creighton and UNI this year, and I was much more impressed with Creighton. I don't think either will win the MVC.

Re: Sluggish Cyclones limp past Texas Southern
Last night Texas Southern had the best player on the court. I really wish #24 was playing for us. He was a flat out stud.
We played like crap and still won by double digits. We missed so many wide open shots, those nights happen. Im just glad it happened against Texas Southern.

The box score shows that ISU got outrebounded by 1. ISU got the win, but that rebounding stat gives me nightmares about what is going to happen in the Big 12 games. We just have to hope that the guys get better at cleaning up the boards...
