This is lousy. I wonder if TJ was at the game with Menemonee Falls. He could have seen future Cyclone Elgin and one of the top targets for ISU in 2012 JP Tokoto.
This also illustrates how hard it is to be a star in HS. You have a target on you jersey, and the kids will use whatever cheap tactics they can to bring you back down to earth.
Hope he gives himself plenty of time to rehab. We will need him next year. He will be able to give Ejim a breather on the wing.
I didn't realize rebounding was one of his strengths. We can always use guys like that, even if the offensive side is still raw.
Elgin should be fine. The academics part kind of worries me.
I wonder if Fred was at the game. Two top potential recruits, one in hand, one in the bush? I certainly hope so!
At the same time, i also wonder if it fell in the recruiting "dead period" surrounding the November signing period. Not sure how long the dead period lasts--or when the game was.
He will have six weeks to work on academics.
If a kid cant pass at least his first year of college of 100 level classes, he has major academic issues.
I doubt it's that he can't, I'm sure it's a discipline thing. There's a lot of time for growing up and he's quite a young kid still. Also, with all the tranfers be eligible next year it's a good possibility that a red shirt would be in order for him anyway. I know a lot of time red shirts are used to get a kid ready for college(passing classes without living at home) than it is for athletic purposes. I'm not worried at all. Heck, if this worries us than how can be be excited about R. White? This isn't even nearly as serious and White seems to be growing up from what we hear.
I don't think we have a realistic shot at JP Tokoto. He has had hype around Milwaukee similar to what Harrison had in Iowa.
The academics situation concerns me with him or any recruit. If you can't take care of business in high school, what are you going to do in college? Hopefully he will get his act together.
TJ is listed as his primary recruiter, and he has been responsible for getting the best recruits we have had of late. He is a very personable guy, and really seems to connect with the kids. I know he is not popular on this board, but TJ will probably be a lot like Scott Drew when he gets his own coaching gig. A guy that connects with kids and seems to always put together elite prospects in his class.
TJ is the reason for the Milwaukee connection. I just think in this instance, with the Dukes, NCs, & UCLAs of the world involved, his MKE connection won't be enough.
Prime example of TJ's connection to the area is Elgin. In the box scores I've seen (and that he's been in) he is the primary scorer for a talented team. He had a great game against the top recruit in the area, JP Tokoto. If it weren't for TJ, Elgin wouldn't know what ISU is but now it's very familiar for local recruits.
On Thanksgiving day, the Milwaukee Prep Basketball review was out and on the front page of the Journal sports section was Elgin in an Iowa State shirt. I was pleasantly surprised by the pub.
Considering how much Tokoto has struggled lately, I highly doubt he still has offers from the Dukes/UNCs of the world.
