Re: Our BB schedule is a disgrace
This is actually the PERFECT schedule to start the Fred Hoiberg era. We have a new coach, with no previous coaching experience. We have a very thin roster, and we lost 90% of our team from last year.
I can't think of a better way to get Fred and his team some confidence going. If we are still playing this type of schedule in 2012-13, then I'll agree with you.

Re: Our BB schedule is a disgrace
If any team needed a bit of a light schedule, this is the one. They've still been impressive despite all that. There is no doubt in my mind that the upcoming schedule will really test their metal, but for now, they needed some time to gel and gain confidence.
I'm hopeful that Freddie toughens it up just a bit after he gets established.

I like easier scheds better than hard scheds.

I actually reject the notion that we are this super young team. 4 of our 8 rotation players are upper classman, 3 being seniors.

I sat in CA during 4 conf basketball games last year because it was so empty and there were 10 rows wide open to sit in. Exactly. I thought the attendance was pretty good based on time of year and excellence of opponent.
Chicago State definitely did not disappoint tonight. They were exactly who we thought they were.
I thought this game was a ton of fun. How can anyone not enjoy watching this team, especially that first half?

But we have NO TRUE POST PLAYERS with any expirence.
And Jake is a senior, but he hasn't been here before, he didn't know the school or the team before.

Only the delusional, severely impatient or Hawkeye trolls could disagree.

Re: Our BB schedule is a disgrace
It is not ISU's fault Drake and Iowa are so bad. Iowa has been horrible, and Drake just lost to a team we beat by 30+. We should look into getting out of those series.
Plus, do you know how tightly packed the non-conference schedules are? Adding one game against a top-50 team, and the ranking would jump by 100.
We returned three players, one of which redshirted. 50% of the roster is freshmen, 60% playing NCCA ball for the first time. 70% of the roster is new to ISU and the Big 12. Find another BCS team with those numbers.
Fred has done a great job molding this squad into a good team.

You amp up the schedule a little when you have a decent team and need the RPI to get into the Dance (for example what GMac tried to do with Duke). This team, no one ever thought would make the tourney. So why get your head beat in in the nonconference? The RPI isn't going to matter anyway. Get a little momentum, a little confidence, some exciting play for the fans. If next year's schedule is this weak, then maybe the OP has a point, but this year? I think that it was a great job by Rutter and FH to put this schedule together.

Drake needs to fire Phelps, he is in over his head.
The next two games are huge for ISU to set the tone for the Big 12 season. The opposition steps up big time and will show if ISU can make it to the NIT. If ISU makes it to the NIT, Hoiberg should national coach of the year.

Here is the Big 12
Kansas State: 4 So, 3 Jr, 2 Sr
Kansas: 2 So, 3 Jr, 3 Sr
Colorado: 1 So, 2 Jr, 3 Sr
Missouri: 1 So, 5 Jr, 1 Sr (yikes for next year bye the way)
Nebraska: 5 So, 4 Jr, 2 Sr
Texas: 2 So, 1 Jr, 4 Sr
Texas A&M: 2 So, 3 Jr, 2 Sr
Baylor: 2 So, 4 Jr, 1 Sr
OSU: 3 So, 2 Jr, 3 Sr
Oklahoma: 3 So, 2 Jr, 1 Sr
Texas Tech: 1 So, 1 Jr, 5 Sr
In addition, all other Big 12 teams are using either 1 or 2 freshman in their rotation. We are using 4.
Oklahoma is the only team with fewer upperclassman than us, but they are using sophmores to fill it, not freshman.
Any way you cut it, we are young.

Re: Our BB schedule is a disgrace
Maybe we should enlist some help from 3rd party schedulers? I hear that we can get players in return for their services? There shouldn't be anything wrong with that.
