Phillips injuring his hand in early November was really what did him in IMO. .

Sometimes, when you have enough talent - like Josh Selby, you can come back from a hand injury and hit game-winning baskets in your first game. Phillips got beat out by a walk-on.

IIRC, the only hand injury Selby had was from too many $100 hand-shakes.

In his interviews at the time, he mostly referred to him as a guy with a "Big 12 body."

Phillips did look to have more skills prior to last season than he showed once he got here.
CW's idea that the hand injury really did him in here probably has a lot of validity to it.

Didn't they say that it happened right when he was named a starter, or half an hour before, or something like that?

I do. It did not work out, but he had talent and potential. Like CW said, the timing of the hand injury set him back, and then it seems like he got down on himself.

With all due respect to DP, this news really doesn't upset me at all. Which is interesting considering just a few months ago if you had told me Phillips would be transferring out before New Year's, I would have been quite concerned.
Just goes to show, you never know how things are going to turn out.

Hard to believe a Mcdermott recruit would transfer because he wasn't good enough to get major playing time at this level (I assume no sarcasm pirate necessary).

A win-win, he wasn't going to play next year at all with our depth at SG. Wish he would have waited until after the season though, in case we get into major foul trouble which will likely happen at some point.

If he transfers at the semester his year of sitting out would end at this time next year. He would have a year and half to play.
