We should compete for 8th place
I think we are better than 4 teams right now
Texas Tech
Colorado
Nebraska
Oklahoma
I think Colorado is who we will be battling for 8th place. Nebraska might jump in that spot as well. Tech and OU are probably the 2 worst teams in the big 12 right now and I think it's shocking how far Capel has brought that program down. Pat Knight is a new coach. I think he will eventually get it together at a different program. However, Doc Sadler is the same as Greg Mcdermott. Kind of a revolving door over there at NU as far as the basketball team goes. There A.D. does not even care really. It's a football school. Colorado has talent. Not sure there new coach knows how to coach it.
Re: We should compete for 8th place
Agreed. 8-12 in the Big XII is a crapshoot right now. And we have home games against TT and OU, so we must win those games to have a shot at 8th.
Re: We should compete for 8th place
I don't know enough to agree or disagree but I would be satisfied with 8th place. Assuming of course that equates to a number of wins that 8th place typically does.
Re: We should compete for 8th place
8th place with at least 6 conference wins would be great, and we would have a shot at the postseason. I would really like more though :) .
Re: We should compete for 8th place
Right now we should beat all of those teams at home. Toss-up games would be at Nebraska and at Colorado. And I think we can knock off one of Baylor, Missouri, and Kansas St. If we get one of those and split to toss-ups, that would be 6 conference wins. I would think that would be enough for 8th place and an NIT invite.
Re: We should compete for 8th place
i'm just hoping we can avoid an 0-3 start and knock off a decent team in hilton. we haven't beaten ranked team at home in 5 years.....would like the hilton faithful to enjoy a game again...
Re: We should compete for 8th place
We need some exciting home games to get the fans excited. To me, getting the fans excited for next year is the most important thing for the team this season. BRING BACK THE MAGIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: We should compete for 8th place
I think great fan support can sway the close games. Our noise can rattle opponents.
Re: We should compete for 8th place
I'm not convinced we are better than Nebbie or CU. I think we split games with both those teams with home team winning all.
Re: We should compete for 8th place
I think 10th is where we belong talent wise, but hopefully we can win enough games in the Big 12 North part of things to help us out. Plus OU and Texas Tech are at home which helps tie breakers.
You might be right. If we pull off enough upsets, 8th might be possible.

The talent differential amongst the teams not in the top half is not to the point that fans of any of those teams should be thinking "if we pull off enough upsets 8th might be possible". Of these teams, the one that wins the majority of the close, even games, and will finish on top.
The Big 12 North is as hard as the Big 12 South, so that is not an advantage.
Re: We should compete for 8th place
Let's just take one game at a time. Going back to other threads, if we take care of business against Virginia tonight it tells us a lot about where we are at right now, and what we can expect against some of the more mediocre Big XII teams on the road.

I think you can make an argument that the North is harder than the South this year.
Kansas is easily tops in the league at this point. Missouri and Kansas St are probably about equal or maybe a littbe better than Baylor and Texas. ATM is easily the next best followed by OSU, but I think Nebraska, Colorado, and us have been better thus far than Texas Tech or Oklahoma.
I think the top of the north is better than the top of the south, and the bottom of the north is better than the bottom of the south. But there isnt much middle ground in the north, and that is where the south has the advantage.
Of course, all of this will probably change by the end of the week.:twitcy:
Re: We should compete for 8th place
It's so sad we are getting excited about the possibility of finishing 8th in anything. Can't wait till Fred gets the program back on track.

IIRC, the Big 12 North went 22-21 against the Big 12 South last year (split at 18-18 during the regular season). Of course, ISU contributed the most to the South's win total.
