Since the Rag is rigged Fizer vs Grayer

Since the Register poll is a joke I'm doing a thread with the finals it should have been. Better doing it here with most here being cyclones and with CF polls you get only vote once. Simple question, what side do you vote Fizer or Grayer?

Jamal Tinsley. No player had a greater impact on winning then JT.

Probably true but both these guys were in the semi's and I'm interested to see the results.

Re: Since the Rag is rigged Fizer vs Grayer

Grayer was the best I've seen play here. If he'd not injured his knee he would have done well in the NBA. I liked watching Hoiberg, Fizer, Tinsley, Cato, among others play, but Grayer was the best.

Re: Since the Rag is rigged Fizer vs Grayer

Tough call. Grayer was the man. Road game at Creighton where he got undercut on a breakaway ruined his knee and career in my opinion, or lessened his professional career anway.

Fizer's run during his junior year/elite 8 season was absolutely amazing, though. He went on a stretch after his buzzer beating Kansas basket (a game that only saw him score 12 points, I think) where he was an absolute unstoppable beast. Seemed like he was scoring 30 points a game at will. And he did it while playing out of position a lot.

Can't pick between the two. Love 'em both!

Re: Since the Rag is rigged Fizer vs Grayer

Tinsley was the best player that ever played here. Grayer had maybe the best career of any player to ever play at ISU. It's hard to argue what Fizer did his JR season though. Arguably the best player in college basketball, and probably the most impressive offensive PF since Glenn Robinson was at Purdue. I would take Fizer over Grayer.

And, deadeyededric, Willoughby, in my opinion, was the absolute hardest working player I've ever seen. Only guy on that great team who could consistently shoot and score, would sprint around at 100 mph off of screens the entire game trying to get open shots. Was just always impressed watching how hard he played without the ball.

Has ISU ever had another MBB Olympian beside Jeff Grayer?

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

I'm pretty certain Grayer is the only one. That team actually lost to the Soviets and got the bronze. Big 8 dominated team - Grayer, Manning and Mitch Richmond were on that team.

No. He was a great player who was lucky that hey still used college players. Fizer and Tinsley no doubt would have been. We have had a couple that have represented the USA. I mean had the olympics been in 86 instead of 88 i doubt Grayer would have been selected. It's the luck of what year you were born. I don't believe Grayer was ever a first team all-american like Fizer and JT were. Or big 8/12 player of the year.

Re: Since the Rag is rigged Fizer vs Grayer

Grayer was first team all Big 8 three consecutive seasons, I believe. And was a third team All-American his senior year. Fizer's last month and a half his junior year completely propelled him from a good player to pretty much one of THE top players of that season. Again, it's tough to say who was better. Grayer averaged over 25 points a game his senior year.

As much as I absolutely loved Tinsley, I still have visions of the Hampton game in my head...and the missed layup.

Re: Since the Rag is rigged Fizer vs Grayer

Wow...this is tough for someone that knew them both and followed both.

This is not a 'dis on Marcus but I gotta go with Jeff. He was very good and could have great. He wasn't nearly the same after the knee injury.

    Tough call....either way.

Excessive intake of alcohol, we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers.
